IGN posts first Resistance 2 review

resistance22.jpg

IGN’s posted the first online review of Insomniac’s Resistance 2, awarding the game a more than respectable 9.5/10.

The official PS mag’s already given it 9/10.

From the site:

Resistance 2 is one of those games that manages to expand on its predecessor in every way. The single player is epic in scope and in story, which is practically worth the price of admission by itself. Then you throw in the extremely engaging co-op and competitive play, which expands on replayability in just about every way possible. Toss in a generous number of unlockables, trophies and community support, and you’ve got a phenomenal experience. This is an exclusive that PS3 owners should be proud to have in their collection.

We want this. Now. Go read.

Resistance 2 beta delayed

Sony has told IGN that the Resistance 2 beta has been delayed meaning the offer we told you about earlier will not be going ahead.

There is no reason given other than “unforseen circumstances.” Which is a shame.

New Resistance trailer shows shooting, bumped graphics

resistance2a5.jpg

After the break. Unless our memory’s leaking, this does look significantly “better” than the first game in terms of visuals. And you get to shoot a giant monster thing in the face, which has to be good.

See for yourself. No date yet for Europe.

American Resistance 2 beta gets underway, game goes gold

resistance211.jpg

As reported by the US PS Blog, the Resistance 2 beta has now started, available only to those who pre-ordered the game through GameStop or subscribe to Qore.

In addition, SCEA’s confirmed that the game is complete. From the post:

The Beta will include competitive maps from three locations in the game. These maps include 60-, 40-, and 20-player maps from Orick, 40- and 20-player maps from Chicago, and the 10-Player map Sub Docks (Bay Area). New modes Skirmish and Core control will be supported, along with Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. The co-op portion of the beta will focused on Orick, and will support randomization of your play-path. Both co-op and competitive will support matchmaking and class/character progression up to level 10. This will allow unlocking of new equipment, upgrades and berserks for character customization.

Lots more through there. Still waiting on confirmation of a start date in Europe.

Bleszinski: Gears to Resistance is “apples to oranges”

cliffyb.jpg

Gears of War design boss Cliff Bleszinski, speaking to Das Gamer, has refused to be drawn on comparisons between Gears 2 and Resistance 2, saying the two are completely separate entities.

“When you break it down and look at each game, it’s largely apples to oranges,” he said.

The designer added, however, that he keeps a close eye on Insomniac’s output.

“I think it’s important to know what’s out there in the shooter genre on other consoles,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for Insomniac. Ted (Price) is a wonderful guy and I think they do great work.

“Everybody loves this dynasty shit where they want to see Ted and I fighting in a fountain pulling each other’s hair or something like that. Sorry, but it’s not going to happen. They’re making their own sci-fi extravaganza, as are we.”

More through there.

New Resistance hands-on and media break cover

resistance216.jpg

PS3F’s posted up a new hands-on with Resistance 2, and it’s all sounding just fine. Snip:

While we enjoyed our time with the single player experience, we certainly had exponentially more fun with the online co-op. Andrew and I joined forces to save mankind from the Chimera curse, he chose to be a medic and I took on the role of a soldier. As you probably already know, there are only three classes to choose from: medic, soldier, and special ops. Anyway, we suited up with six other journalists and Insomniac guys for a full 8-player game, and what we ended up with was probably the most fun online multiplayer experience I’ve ever had.

There are new screens and two new movies on Shacknews.

EG’s got a hands-on up as well, but it’s being buried under LittleBigPlanet beta madness at the moment.

Resistance 2 is “just about finished”

resistance21.jpg

Speaking to Gamespot, Insominac chief Ted Price said that Resistance 2 is almost done. Phew.

“The game is just about finished as I write this,” he said. “Yet the three to four weeks before we deliver a final disc to the factory are always the most difficult.

“This is when we’re fixing bugs, adding tons of polish, making tuning tweaks, and trying to keep our builds stable for the testing team. What’s great is that all of our features are in, and the game is looking, sounding, and playing fantastic. Resistance 2 has become everything we hoped it would be.”

Loads more through there. We’re still waiting on a European date for the shooter sequel, but America gets it on November 4.

Resistance 2 public beta applications now open

resistance2111.jpg

Sony’s opened applications to the Resistance 2 public beta, as you can see here.

We’re assuming you can get onto this no matter what your region: we just logged in using our PSN ID, and we’re based in the UK.

You need to fill out a standard form and email invites will be sent out at an unspecified date.

“We’ll notify you via e-mail if you are accepted into the Public Beta,” says the page.

“Space is limited. So, if you want to get a chance to try out all the new multiplayer features in Resistance 2, such as the 8-player co-op and up to 60-player competitive multiplayer, apply now! Good luck!”

Go go go.

Resistance 2 multiplayer demo reaches Europe this October

resistance24.jpg

SCEE’s announced a multiplayer demo for Europe this October, but has unfortunately failed to give a solid date.

“The event will allow PS3 owners the opportunity to be the first to explore new levels, modes and weapons – as well as provide Insomniac Games, the developer of Resistance 2, and SCEE with feedback on the game,” a SCEE rep said on the European PlayStation boards.

“No further details are available as yet, but we’ll bring you more info as soon as we have it.”

The news comes after solid release dates for the game were announced today for both Japan and the US.

SCEE told us today that the shooter’s European date would be confirmed “fairly soon.”
