The Company of Heroes movie based on Relic’s strategy games will be released on DVD and Blu-ray February 26. It was originally slated for release March 19, according to Gamespot. It stars Tom Sizemore, Neal McDonough and some other Hollywood types. Here it is on Amazon.

Relic has released a new Company of Heroes 2 developer diary, in which the team’s Brett Pascal, Greg Wilson, Jasen Torres and Rob Westwood discuss the strategy title’s gameplay. The team also touches up on the new light of sight system, TrueSight, and how the horrors of war on the Eastern Front will immerse the player in battlefields of WWII. The video also provides some in-game clips. In other news, a closed beta test is expected sometime “after the New Year,” and an Alpha stress test will go live next week for a limited number of players. Company of Heroes 2 pre-purchase customers on Steam have collectively unlocked the first tier of rewards. Early bird customers can now doll up their Team Fortress 2 characters with military insignia and head gear, but there’s another tier waiting to be unlocked once enough people pre-purchase the game, and it’s something rather neat indeed.

Those anticipating the reveal of Company of Heroes 2 may not have much longer to wait, if a bit of swag sent to Kotaku is any indication. According to the site, THQ sent over a replica of the June 22, 1941 front page of The New York Times along with a card stating that “briefings begin May 7.” So, a May 7 reveal looks to be the day, then. The replica of the paper with the headline “Hitler Begins War on Russia, with Armies on March from Arctic to the Black Sea” can be seen through this online microfilm copy. Yesterday, scans from PC Gamer UK popped up online showing the game was not only in the works, but set for release in 2013 from Relic.

Company of Heroes 2 is in the works, according to a scan of the upcoming issue of PC Gamer. The image was posted on Reddit, and the article details a visit the reporter took to Relic to see the game. According to what was gleaned from the scan, the title is set on the Eastern front of World War II and includes Stalingrad, Smolensk, Kursk and Moscow as locations. The game’s lead designer, Quinn Duffy, is quoted as saying: “We want more authenticity, we want more realism, we want more tactical improvements.” Shack contacted THQ regarding the scan and it had “no official comment on the images or article.”

THQ has announced Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online is no longer an MMO, and the titles will be “refocused” as “an immersive single-player and online multiplayer experience with robust digital content, and engaging community features.” The resulting change has led to lay-offs at Vigil and Relic.
