THQ delays Red Faction: Guerilla and Darksiders
In THQ’s fairly horrible Q2 earnings report yesterday was news that Red Faction: Guerilla and Darksiders were both being pushed back into the next fiscal year.
That means both games will ship in the 12 months ending March 31, 2010.
The titles were both expected to hit before the end of the current financial year, ending March 31, 2009.
THQ said yesterday it’s to embark on a major restructuring after posting a heavy loss.

Volition: We struggled with PS3 Red Faction
Volition reckons it needed extra help to get the PS3 version of Red Faction: Guerilla up to muster with the 360 version.
“I mean, to be honest, we are pushing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 to the limits,” associate producer Sean Kennedy told OXM.
“I mean, not only has it been a balancing act making destruction work with the gameplay and making it all come together in a cohesive way that’s fun but it’s been a balancing act getting the game to run on the systems.
“One little change and you’re out of memory. When it comes to PlayStation3, there’s less memory to work with. We actually ended up hiring some from Sony to help us make our PS3 version. Fortunately, they are the same. We’ve been able to make sure that PC, 360 and PS3 versions are the same.”
So there we are. The game’s out early next year.

New Red Faction video shows ample destruction

First Red Faction: Guerilla footage released
And very good it looks, too. The trailer after the break shows plenty of open-world destruction, crumbling buildings and explosions, so there’s a few reasons to be cheerful.
The Volition-developed sequel has moved into third-person, as the thinking behind the switch is explained in the video. There’s a developer interview on IGN, if you’re after words. Take a look.
Game’s out on PC, PS3 and 360 next year.

Red Faction: Guerilla is third-person and open-world, says THQ
According to this, THQ has formally announced Red Faction: Guerilla, the third in the Volition shooter franchise. The game is to be third-person, as was seen in the first screen yesterday, a departure from the FPS format of the previous two games.
The game’s environment is described as “open-world”, and is set 50 years after the first game. In a nutshell, you’re a freedom fighter up against the opressive Earth Defense Force (EDF) on Mars. Expect plenty of destruction and deformation.
“Red Faction: Guerrilla expands the signature destruction elements of the series and pushes the boundaries of next-gen gaming on a massive, terra-formed Mars where gamers can literally tear down the enemy EDF presence brick by brick,” said Volition president Mike Kulas. “With a new third-person perspective, a full cover system that allows for guerrilla style tactics and a diverse planet to explore we’re excited to revitalize the gripping world of Red Faction for high-definition platforms.”
Red Faction: Guerilla will ship for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 during THQ’s fiscal year 2009, which runs from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009.

First Red Faction: Guerilla shot emerges
And here it is. The top one’s real, the bottom one isn’t. Looks like a bloke holding an axe, to us, and it seems to suggest a third-person element. There’s lots of deformation going on there, which is in keeping with the first two games. No idea when we’re going to get a proper first look at this.

Red Faction: Guerilla and Aliens game named, acording to GI cover
The next issue of Game Informer appears to have named the recently confirmed shooter Red Faction III as Red Faction: Guerilla. The Volition-developed game first came to light in recent THQ financials.
The cover also has details of the Gearbox Aliens game. Apparently titled Aliens Colonial Marines, the title is “invading consoles and PCs in 2009″ and takes the form of a “squad-based FPS”. Hot diggedy. Probably see more on both these at GDC next week.

Loads of add-on content for the European PSN Store this week, along with demos for Red Faction: Guerrilla and UFC 2009 Undisputed.
