IGN batters Wii version of Quantum of Solace
Whoops. IGN’s hammered the Wii version of Quantum of Solace, saying it has “one of the lousiest framerates” seen in a Wii gameand that, “It’s clear from the moment you start playing that the Wii version of Quantum of Solace was never — not even for a second — a priority.”
Summing up:
What a disappointment. While Quantum of Solace houses some fun concepts, including a competent cover system, the entire experience is marred by a medley of technical failures — not shortcomings, but total missteps. The game chugs along with one of the lousiest framerates I have ever witnessed — I’m not exaggerating when I write that at certain points the fluidity halts to an unplayable slideshow. There’s graphical glitches — pop-up, geometry drops, and more at every turn. And Treyarch chose to ignore the control innovations made in games like Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Metroid Prime 3 and most recently The Conduit for a sluggish crosshair that seems inspired by the configuration in Red Steel. I just don’t get it. It’s clear from the moment you start playing that the Wii version of Quantum of Solace was never — not even for a second — a priority. Absolutely do not support software of this low quality.
It’s 4.5/10, apparently. There’s a video full of choppy framerate sections after the break.

Quantum of Solace on Wii – 10 minutes of video
There’s the first ten minutes of the Wii version of Quantum of Solace after the break, and it really doesn’t look half bad. It’s off-screen, but perfectly watchable.
Game’s out this week. See for yourself.

Treyarch Bond team pumps, needs sequel badly
Quantum of Solace design boss Adam Gascoine is hyped. The game isn’t out of the door and he’s already thinking sequel. So’s the rest of the team, apparently.
“I do know that our team wants to work on the next Bond,” he told Videogamer. “Because we feel we have a lot more to say.
“The first game in a franchise is never the greatest game ever made. We’ve got a really good game and we’re really proud of it but we want to build. We want to go like Call of Duty 1 to Call of Duty 2, Halo 1 to Halo 2. We want to make sure that gamers can play this and say all right this is the start of a dynasty. This is going to get better and better and better.
Gascoine added: “There’s stuff we really want to improve on. We also want to get driving in the game. We had it in the game for like a year, but we took it out because we didn’t want to do a license game where it’s just got everything and is an average level all the way through.
“So we took all of those resources and put them into combat. But if we do the game again, another version, we want to put some of that stuff back in.”
Game’s out on all formats on October 31. More through the link.

Quantum of Solace gets date, new movie
Acti-Bliz put a date on Quantum of Solace tonight, meaning you can now set your spy calendars to November 4 if you live in the US. There doesn’t appear to have been any timing announced for Europe, but it’s unlikely to vary too much.
There’s a new movie after the break, released in celebration. It’s about level design. You cannot possibly resist.

Bond to go annual, says analyst
According to this GI story, Cowen and Company’s Doug Cruetz has claimed that Activision is to go annual with Bond games.
“James Bond will become an annual franchise, which we had not necessarily expected given the lack of an accompanying movie next year,” said the analyst.
Not quite sure where he’s got that from, but there we are. More through the link.

Speaking at Games Convention, Adam Gascoigne, co-design director of Quantum of Solace, said that actors Daniel Craig, Dame Judy Dench and many other members of the cast from Casino Royale will “feature extensively” in Quantum of Solace.

New Quantum of Solace demo reveals November release date
Speaking at Games Convention, Adam Gascoigne, co-design director of Quantum of Solace, revealed that the game will be available in November.
We saw Bond running through a sewer, shooting. We saw loads of shooting, in fact. A ‘Gears of War’- style, duck’n'cover system will be used throughout the game.
The environment plays a large role too. There was a huge waterfall at the end of the sewer that was actually making the screen shake. We saw a pillar through a wall confirming destructible environments.
The graphics were amazing. We even thought it was CGI to begin with. Definitely one to look out for.

First Quantum of Solace footage looks hot
After the break. The video shows a switchable first- and third-person camera, impressively destructable environments and a lot of shooting. We like. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong with this, but from the look of it it’s Bond crossed with the CoD4 engine made by non-idiots. That should probably equal a win. Take a look.

IGN has a first look at Quantum of Solace, the next, upcoming James Bond game.
It’s being developed by Treyarch, and, according to the article, will be utilizing the Call of Duty 4 engine.
The Bond franchise has struggled ever since GoldenEye, but with the introduction of a proven game engine it sounds as though this one could be promising.
