“I’m not allergic to Xbox 360,” says PixelJunk Shooter boss

pixeljunkshooter

Q-Games’ oeuvre may be currently Xbox-phobic, but, if comments made by PixelJunk Shooter director Shouichi Tominaga are any indication, there’s hope for 360 titles from the Japanese developer yet.

Q-Games on piracy, PixelJunk Dungeon and a mistrust of marketing

qlogo

Nathan: “Pat! I’m going to Japan!”
Pat: “I’ll ask Dylan Cuthbert if you can pop along to Q’s offices in Kyoto and do an interview.”
Nathan: “Awesome.”

[10 minutes later]

Pat: “It’s all good. He said yes.”
Nathan: “I’m so, like, doing this thing. Hopefully I’ll get to speak to PixelJunk Shooter director Shouichi Tominaga, PixelJunk Monsters and Racers director Rhod Broadbent and recruitment and PR chap Duncan Flett.”
Pat: “That would be very cool. And Dylan, too?”
Nathan: “I have a feeling he won’t be there on the day.”
Pat: “Me too. We didn’t want to speak to him anyway, right?”
Nathan: “Right. I think.”

Australian ratings board outs Nintendo-published “Reflect Missile” from Q-Games

qgameslogo

Q-Games, creator of the excellent PixelJunk series on PSN, has something in the works for a Nintendo console – if a listing from the Australian Classification Operating Branch is to be believed.

Want to know more? Us too. But for now, a title’s all we’ve got. And unfortunately, “Reflect Missile” is one of those titles that’ll only make sense once we’ve seen the game in action.

When last Nintendo and Q crossed paths, Art Style: Digidrive / Intersect appeared on DSiWare. Reflect Missile doesn’t exactly scream “artsy,” but then, neither does “Digidrive / Intersect,” so you never know.

Thanks, GamerBytes.

PixelJunk Shooter – The entire first level in video

pixeljunkshooterlogo

Hit the link for almost 12 minutes of video from the first level of PixelJunk Shooter, the latest in the Q Games series.

On first impressions it appears to be properly excellent, blending puzzles and shooting in something instantly accessible and fun. Good deal.

Ignore the fact that someone appears to be playing it like a simpleton for the first few minutes, obviously.

It’s out on December 10.

Q-Games Pres: PixelJunk steering clear of PSP because of piracy

pjmdlogo

Well, this is no good. Q-Games President Dylan Cuthbert has tweeted that Sony’s infinitely pirateable portable probably won’t be seeing any more of his company’s flagship franchise.

“I don’t think we’ll port anything else to the PSP, we have to see how [PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe] does as there’s a *lot* of piracy,” he said.

When confronted with the possibility of rigging the game’s code with anti-piracy measures, Cuthbert was less than optimistic.

Unfortunately, the pirates could just hack those kinds of things out.”

For shame, pirates. For shame.

Q Games says cost for PS3 Dynamic Themes development “far exceeds” any profits

pixeljunkmonsters

Q Games’ Dylan Cuthbert has said that it’s unlikely to earn any money developing dynamic themes for PS3, and is pleased with the system it helped create for Sony.

The studio head admits that the firm is “proud” to also be one of the first developers to create themes for the system which adds interactivity with firmware upgrade 3.0.

“Sony wanted to spice up the background a bit and static pictures just didn’t cut the mustard,” Cuthbert wrote o the US PS Blog. “So we collaborated with them to make a system where developers can display what they want and animate and move them around.

“This definitely adds a little life to the PS3’s background so be sure to try it out.”

Currently, the firm has a PixelJunk Monsters Dynamic Theme up for $2.99 and Cuthbert stands behind the price for such themes.

“Remember that we’ll be lucky to sell even a few thousand themes, and so the cost of developing the theme (3-4 weeks of coder/artist time, checking, testing etc) will still far exceed any money we make from it.”

CESA release partial game and speakers list for Tokyo Games Show 2009

tgs09-logo

The Tokyo Games Show starts on September 24, and the CESA has released a partial list of games that will be present for the event.

Seems like there is a games conference every month, doesn’t it?

Some of the speakers lined up include Sony’s Kaz Hirai delivering a keynote, Haruhiro Tsujimoto the president and COO of Capcom, Konami VP Kazumi Kitaue, Square’s Yoichi Wada, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida and Shin Unozawa the president and CEO of Namco Bandai.

Epic president Michael Capps will also be there, delivering a speech on “Adapting the ‘Gears of War’ Franchise for Global Consumption”

Cool stuff.

As far as games go, the list is past the break. While it is only a partial list, you may notice that Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, and Square Enix are missing from the list. Don’t worry, all will be there will bells on.

Surely more will be announced soon as well, so until then, just keep watch for more updates.
