Pixeljunk boss talks ‘core’ next-gen innovation, Microsoft’s poor performance in Japan
Pixeljunk developer Q-Games has expressed its hope for a resurgence in core games going into the next generation. Studio president Dylan Cuthbert isn’t just talking about Call of Duty though, but proper, innovative ‘gamer’s games’ that can sell for more than a low digital asking price.

Q-Games’ president, Dylan Cuthbert, believes Nintendo is need of “super IP, a special IP” in order to get more consumers interested in Wii U, and in order for Microsoft to carve out a slot in the Japanese market, it needs to reinvent itself.

Pixeljunk dev hasn’t abandoned PS3, discusses Steam release
Pixeljunk developer Q Games has explained why it has taken its next game – codenamed ’1-6′ – to Steam rather than PS3 or PS Vita. The studio has also confirmed that it hasn’t abandoned Sony formats.

PixelJunk games drop to $1 for anniversary sale
Q Games has announced an anniversary sale for all of the PixelJunk games, beginning today with the US PS Blog update. Games like PJ Racers, Monsters, Eden, and Shooter will all be a $1, while Shooter 2 and Sidescroller’s prices will be halved. The sale comes ahead of the release of PixelJunk 4am next week.

PixelJunk 4am beta live for Plus members
The beta for PixelJunk 4am is live for PS Plus members. Those with a Move and a beta code can now join in on the early, limited access beta which for now only features one visualiser and one song. You can download the Free 4am Live Beta Viewer even if you don’t have a Move controller in order to stream everyone’s beta performances. During the tester, Q-Games will host “some special live performances from around the world,” including DJ Baiyon performing live from Japan. The game releases in May with 7 songs and 6 visualisers with 38 variations, 10 events and over 190 different sounds.

PixelJunk 4am launching on May 15
Q Games has announced on the US PS Blog it’ll release PixelJunk 4am on May 15. The Move-based title has been under the radar for a bit, but it remerged at GDC last month, and is looking in good form. There’s a new video of it from GDC below. Q’s also said an open beta will begin for PS Plus members on May 1.

PixelJunk Eden landing on Steam tonight
Q-Games boss Dylan Cuthbert has confirmed the PC version of PixelJunk Eden will arrive on Steam at 3am JPST or 10am PST. That equates to 6pm GMT in proper timezones. The PC version of Eden is a refined version of the PSN release that will cost $9.99. You should probably get this if you loved the PS3 version.

PixelJunk Shooter 2, Limbo top indie PSN charts
PixelJunk Shooter 2 and Limbo were the two biggest selling PSN hits of this year, coming out on top of their respective downloadable game lists. PJ Shooter 2 was first in the list of downloadable titles published by Sony, followed by Fat Princess and Flower. The Playdead horror platform appeared in the list for games not published first-party on top, followed by Behemoth’s Castle Crashers and Test Yourself Psychology from Creat Studios.

PixelJunk Lifelike renamed to PixelJunk 4am
Q-Games has announced its renamed PixelJunk Lifelike, dropping the Lifelike subtitle for 4am. Bayion, collaborator on the game, said the reason for the name switch is because it “represents the exact mood and feeling we’ve captured. 4am is that deep night hour. In clubs, the music drifts to a new level entering a deepened state that often seems removed from reality,” adding it’s “something unique that has never been tried before.” Get the new trailer for it below the break, via Joystiq.

PixelJunk Sidescroller gets new trailer
Q Games has released a brand new trailer of PixelJunk Sidescroller, showing the game’s retrotastic looks. There’s some nods in there too for PixelJunk Shooter as well, so it’s all good. It looks kinda cool, so give it a watch below the break, via the US PS Blog.
Still no date yet for the game, but this year on PSN is probably a fair assumption.

PixelJunk SideScroller announced for PS3 – screens
Q announced PixelJunk SideScroller last night, despite the fact the game didn’t make an appearance in the Sony press conference. Check out some screens below. It has local two-way co-op and looks pretty much like something from 1995 with modernity forced right up it, as is Q’s wont. There’s no date. There is, however, a video.
