Good news for PS3 owners dying to get their hands on Tales of Vesperia: a demo for the PS3 version has just gone live on the Japanese PS Store.

It weighs in at 253Mb and lets you go to the Keiv Moc part of the game with a five-character party.

The game’s out this summer for PlayStation 3 in Japan, with no release date for Europe and the US as yet. The Xbox 360 version only launched in the West at the end of June.

Rare has reportedly laid off around 12 artists and engineers, following confirmation this week that the studio was to be restructured.

The company is also reducing the number of project leads, according to this GI report, asking employees to reapply for positions elsewhere within the company.

Rare studio manager Mark Betteridge said on Tuesday that structural alterations were necessary at the studio to “speed development and better manage the scale required to create high quality games”.

Looks like the LittleBig world isn’t ending after all. During Sony’s CES conference, Kaz Hirai let the news that LittleBigPlanet has sold 1.3 million copies worldwide slip through his satisfied grin. Diehard creators, however, only make up a small portion of Sony’s sack squad, with a total of 300,000 levels created.

In addition, Hirai also revealed that 17 million users now board the Internet through PSN’s gates – 2.1 million of whom joined in December alone.

Unsurprisingly, PSN users work their wallets on a regular basis, growing the PlayStation Store’s download total to 330 million.

So, any chance that a downloadable LittleBigPlanet is on the way?

Rabid Final Fantasy fans take note; if you want some day-one hands-on time with Dissidia: Final Fantasy, come December 18, a Japanese PSN account will grant your wish.

According to a Japanese TGS listing (kindly translated by Siliconera), the Final Fantasy-themed, fan service-tacular fighter will be joining titles like Loco Roco 2 and Patapon 2 in the Japanese PlayStation Store on day one.

While pricing hasn’t been finalized, the two aforementioned Sony-published titles’ digital price tags sport slightly smaller numbers than their retail counterparts, so speculation says downloading Dissidia could also save your wallet some grief.

At this point, details of the game’s Western release haven’t been nailed down, so we can’t say whether or not the game’s localized release will be straddling the Internet en route to your PSP.

A SCEE spokesperson released a statement on the European PlayStation forums yesterday about slow loading times for icons on the newly revamped PS Store:

As you will have noticed, the PS Store re-launched successfully today, and we’d like to thank you for your positive feedback.

We are aware that many of you have experienced delays whilst the PS Store’s thumbnail icons are being downloaded. This is a temporary consequence of a new system implementation and high global traffic levels, and will be resolved within the next few days.

Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Hopefully things will settle down after you all stop, you know, using your PS3s. Oh.

SCEE’s just confirmed to videogaming247 that the next PS3 Firmware, version 2.30, will release alongside the new PS Store on April 15 in Europe.

“Yes, Firmware 2.30 will be released at the same time,” said a rep.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the DTS sound upgrade detailed yesterday will be included in the European release.

The update is required to run the new Store, which was confirmed for an April 15 launch this morning.

SCEA’s just posted a video walkthrough of the new PlayStation Store on its blog.

SCEJ confirmed today that the Japanese version would release on April 15, and it’s reasonable to expect a worldwide release of both the store and Firmware 2.30.

The latest edition of PS3′s Firmware, 2.30, will be released on April 15, according to this XtremePS3 report. The site’s carrying a rough translation of a Japanese announcement on the SCEJ site, which says:

Sony PlayStation 3 online service will be renewed on April 15th, 2008 (Tuesday) evening. This will renew and expand the store by adding functionality described below:

• New interface and navigation improvements
• Preview video content using still images
• New download categories added

After the update, PS3 System Software 2.30 will be available.

The new PS Store will be released at the same time. Although not explicitly announced, you can assume this will be a global affair. We’re just checking with SCEE.

Sony has issued a statement warning of “unauthorized access to personal information on the PlayStation Store through PCs, a content download service of the PlayStation Network.”

The firm says that is it possible that a small amount of users may have had their passwords changed. However, any chance of your credit card information being leaked is “very unlikely”.
