Itagaki-less Team Ninja in love with PS3, looking into Wii
Speaking with Gamasutra, Itagaki-successor Hitoshi Hasegawa and Ninja Gaiden Sigma director/former Itagaki-successor Yosuke Hayashi suffocated Sony’s next-gen competitor with smooches.
“The developers have been releasing products, but there is a bigger potential,” Hayashi said. “There is greater potential, and we see that possibility the most in the PlayStation 3. It’s going to be up to us developers and Sony to make sure that that does happen.”
“For any developer that’s been working on all of the platforms that are available today, I think they would agree that the PlayStation 3 is the most powerful system out there,” he added, also touting Sony’s top-notch developer support.
When the Wii’s turn came around, however, things were a little less cut-and-dry.
“Internally at the company, we have a lot of knowledge, and I think we’ve
mastered most of the components to make a very compelling and entertaining product using the console,” Hasegawa explained.
“We will continue to work in that path. We have a lot of Wii console fans within the company, so hopefully there’s something that we can work on.”

Capcom a “prolific PSN publisher,” receives branded PS Store for effort
The first in what is likely to be a long series, Capcom has earned the keys to its very own digital PSN storefront. Why? Because, as Capcom product manager John Diamonon said, the publisher is “supporting Playstation Network like no other company.”
“Out of all of the third-party companies making use of the digital space, [Sony] recognizes Capcom is one of the best partners for content,” he told Edge.
The Capcom-branded piece of digital real estate is set to launch in November and will be the first of its kind.
Regarding an Xbox 360 equivalent, however, Capcom brass wasn’t quite as gung-ho.
“As far as Microsoft goes–how can I say this diplomatically–there are things I think they’d like to do to promote content in multiple ways, and I think they’ll get there eventually… but they’re not there yet,” said Capcom business chap, Christian Svensson.
Now if Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 christens the PS Store’s new section, our money will be forfeit. Take us, Capcom.

Activision financials: “Competitive advantage” on PS3 to be extended
According to this, Activision last night claimed it had a “competitive advantage” in terms of PlayStation 3 development, risen from the construction of a central development that allowed the publisher to successfully develop games across multiple platforms. EA had previously admitted having a tough time with PS3 development.
The runaway success of Call of Duty 4 – named the biggest selling game for 2007, was seen of proof tat this strategy hd paid dividends.
The news emerged from an investor call last night following the release of record third quarter financials from Activision.

45nm Cell to reduce power consumption by 40%
According to Tom’s Hardware, “Sony is apparently working on a 65 nm to 45 nm migration of its Cell Broadband Engine. Sony claims that the chip area size will be reduced by 34% and the 45 nm Cell will consume 40% less power than the 65 nm generation. The company also works on improving the design for manufacturability (DFM) for Cell to simplify the CPU production process.”
The Cell processor, obviously, powers PS3, although quite what a 40% reducrion in energy consumption would mean for the machine, apart from being good for the environment and you console not getting so hot, isn’t clear. Someone will tell us soon enough, we’re sure.

Terrible Metal Gear Online video unearthed
It’s only the quality that’s bad. The game looks cool, as you’ll see if you squint your way through the video below. Metal Gear Online’s a bit of an unknown quanity at the moment, with only a handful of shots and videos released since the title was announced last July. This new movie shows a lengthy gameplay session of Snake-alikes in rather hectic stealth mode, apparently taken from the recent Japanese beta test, with what looks like the full 16 players using scopes, hand-to-hand combat and all the other features you’ve already seen in the MGS4 videos and playtests against real opponents.
See for yourself. Metal Gear Online is a stand alone product from MGS4 and has no release date as yet.

Someone bothers to call Sony about new PS3 SKU
SCEE has dismissed talk of a 120-160Gb PS3 as “rumour and speculation” following this morning’s… rumour and speculation. CVG gets brownie points for working out how to operate buttons on a telephone. The story started in reaction to last week’s assumptions that Sony’s dumping the 80Gb SKU in America.

Larger HD PS3 SKU to replace 80Gb version, says rumour
Probably bollocks, but inevitable chatter nonetheless. With rumours of the demise of America’s 80Gb PS3 SKU circulating heavily last week as the result of a “leaked internal memo” from US retailer Best Buy, it was only a matter of time before the internet ran away with itself and started predicting a 120-160Gb replacement.
Sony’s said nothing yet. And we can’t contact anyone to ask, because we haven’t launched.
European gamers can only buy a 40Gb SKU after the 60Gb version was phased out, so all this is pretty much Greek at the moment. We’ll be able to talk to SCEE in an official capacity next week.
