Planetside 2′s cert gain rates and costs for unlocks have been adjusted, and the time investment for weapons has been reduced by 30% on top end weapon unlock, according to SOE. The adjustments will allow players to earn points two times as fast as the current build, but cert prices on abilities and attachments will be doubled in order to even out the changes. Weapon certs will remain as is, it will take players less time to unlock new items with some weapons even being cut by half. When the game launches on November 20, players will notice the various costs schematic, which will come in five different categories. That should make things easier to discern. Another Planetside 2 video showing real players battling it out, has been released by SOE. Earlier this week, the spotlight was on the Black Widow Company; today, it’s Azure Twilight. The MMO is currently in beta and expected to launch this year.

Planetside 1 is going free-to-play, SOE boss John Smedley has announced on Twitter. He said with the launch of Planetside 2, its predecessor will be “kept running and it will go F2P sometime fairly soon.” SOE Live starts tomorrow in Las Vegas, and while there won’t be anything announced on PS1 at the event, expect plenty to come out of the event regarding other SOE Thanks, PCGamesN.

Planetside 2 will launch “on or before December 31,” SOE has announced. The date was included in the fine print of a members package called Alpha Squad. The package will run you $39.99 / £29.99 and comes with beat access and 4000 Station Cash. At launch, those who purchased it will also get to choose between three camo sets based on the three factions. A Founder title, twelve weapon unlocks, 10% XP and a resource boost for six months will also be included. Thanks, PCGamesN.

Planetside 2 beta play has begun and developer Sony Online Etertainment has released a new dev diary to tie in with the festivities. The clip shows new gameplay and sees creative director Matt Higby and senior art director Tramell Isaac discussing Plantside 2′s Light Assault Class.

SOE boss John Smedley has said the Planetside 2 beta should start soon, providing “all goes ok” with bug squashing and a “tech test” which will “begin in the next 2 days.” The news was posted via Smedley’s Twitter account, no doubt causing a little squeal to emit from many of his followers. Planetside 2′s Forge Light engine will provide a better balance for indoor and outdoor battlefields, according to SOE president John Smedley, who told PC Magazine he would like game maps to have a 50/50 to 60/40 ratio for indoor environments.

The “REALLY MASSIVE” [sic] Planetside follow-up SOE’s John Smedley was rabbiting on about this morning probably isn’t called Planetside Next, according to Massively.

“We spoke to SOE and confirmed that this is an internal working title, not the official one, so we may be hearing about a new title in the future,” said the site.

Smedley said today that the sequel to SOE’s MMO shooter is to feature bonkers-huge battles and “much better organization”.

SOE has sent out a survey to Planetside players saying it intends to release another game based on the MMO shooter IP.

And here’s what it says:

We plan to expand the PlanetSide® universe with another game and we need your help with the design. After all, who knows the game better than you, our customers, the people who actually play it! Don’t worry about the original PlanetSide, it isn’t going anywhere.

We want to hear your opinion and to do so we have put together a short survey. The information you provide will play a critical role into helping guide the development and direction of the next hit Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter.
