Pixeljunk boss talks ‘core’ next-gen innovation, Microsoft’s poor performance in Japan
Pixeljunk developer Q-Games has expressed its hope for a resurgence in core games going into the next generation. Studio president Dylan Cuthbert isn’t just talking about Call of Duty though, but proper, innovative ‘gamer’s games’ that can sell for more than a low digital asking price.

PixelJunk games drop to $1 for anniversary sale
Q Games has announced an anniversary sale for all of the PixelJunk games, beginning today with the US PS Blog update. Games like PJ Racers, Monsters, Eden, and Shooter will all be a $1, while Shooter 2 and Sidescroller’s prices will be halved. The sale comes ahead of the release of PixelJunk 4am next week.

PixelJunk Shooter 2 details, releasing “soon”

PixelJunk Shooter 2 is the first proper sequel in Q-Games’ quirky series so far, and if new information is to be believed, it could very soon land in our eager little paws, complete with new bosses, loads of additional content, and a hard-fought multiplayer mode.

Nathan: “Awesome.”

Pat: “It’s all good. He said yes.”
Nathan: “I’m so, like, doing this thing. Hopefully I’ll get to speak to PixelJunk Shooter director Shouichi Tominaga, PixelJunk Monsters and Racers director Rhod Broadbent and recruitment and PR chap Duncan Flett.”
Pat: “That would be very cool. And Dylan, too?”
Nathan: “I have a feeling he won’t be there on the day.”
Pat: “Me too. We didn’t want to speak to him anyway, right?”
Nathan: “Right. I think.”

Facebook event launched for PixelJunk 1-4

Q Games’ Dylan Cuthbert has created a PixelJunk 1-4 Facebook event titled, “PixelJunk 1-4 sells one million units at launch!”
Via Twitter, Cuthbert explained said it was all a joke, but promised that the more people join, the more images of the game will be uploaded.
And yep. There’s an image on the page.

Q Games working on PixelJunk 1-4 demo

According to a recent Twitter post from Dylan Cuthbert, Q Games is working on a PixelJunk 1-4 demo.
Here’s the tweet:
“About to go collect an order of MOS burgers for everyone still at Q working on the PixelJunk 1-4 demo”
Cuthbert told Wired back in March that his company was currently at work on PixelJunk 4 and other titles in the series.
Hopefully this means we won’t have to wait much longer to take a gander at it.

GDC 09: PS Blog mixer hosting Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, Insomniac

The SCEA PS Blog mixer at GDC next week features tons of games, demos and whatnot. The list of developers attending was confirmed today. It’s pretty damn cool.
Tuesday – March 24
- Sucker Punch will be on hand to to demo inFamous
Wednesday – March 25
- Titan Studios will be demoing Fat Princess
- Insomniac will provide a case study for Resistance 2′s co-op and multiplayer
- Jack Buser will be talking Home
- Media Molecule will be there all day discussing LittleBigPlanet and the rise of user generated content.
Thursday – March 26
- Q-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert will demo PixelJunk and give the audience hand time with it.
It’s gonna be fun. We’ll have dictaphones at the ready.
