A new video for MechWarrior Online has been released, showing a landing party arriving in a landscape filled with “acidic haze and caustic heat.” The high temperatures throughout the entire map will greatly affect gameplay, as everything will tend to overheat. Players can make use of cooler weapons such as ballistics, which contain a reduced heat profile and long-ranged weapons will be beneficial on the map as well. Watch the video below. Game’s set for August 7, and you can look over the PC specs here. The game is currently slated for a “summer” release with early access starting August 7.

Piranha has unveiled a new frontline BattleMech, the Dragon. First manufactured in 2754 in Luthien, the Dragon is “a long-range focussed ‘Mech capable of handling threats at all ranges”. It sports a Vlar 300 engine, ten tonnes of Starshield armour, a Telos DecaCluster LRM-10, Imperator-A Autocannon/5, and two Victory 23R Medium Lasers. MechWarrior Online is the free to play revival of the classic mech sim series, expected exclusively for PC in 2012.

MechWarrior Online will be built on Crytek’s award-winning CryEngine 3. According to a post on the game’s website, Piranha Bytes president Russ Bullock believes the tech will allow for “a truly unique AAA experience”.
The long-awaited return to a beloved PC gaming franchise was announced at the end of October as a free-to-play MMO mech sim which plays out the series canon in real time conflicts.

Concept art created by Piranha Games, the studio behind much of the multiplayer in Duke Nukem Forever, has been released. It shows some of the babes you will be stealing from your opposition’s camp in the Capture the Babe multiplayer mode. There’s also a video below of Duke walking around with the equivalent of Mr. Hankey and tossing it at walls and the like. It doesn’t wear a Santa hat though. To save a bit of face, there’s a jetpack video below as well.
