Phosphor Games has put funding on hold for Project Awakened “effective immediately.”

Project Awakened ‘s Kickstarter campaign fell short of its $500,000 goal earlier this week, but Phosphor Games isn’t giving up completely. Today, Joystiq noticed a poll on the official website, which asks participants whether they would be game for another round of crowdfunding. The firm is considering a direct PayPal account, along with the possibility of continuing “to work on the project in our spare time,” as it previously stated. Phosphor said it will announce its plans moving forward on March 13.

Project Awakened has not, in fact, stirred from its slumber. The independent games crowdfunding campaign closed today with $338,498 in pledges from 6,287 backers. Despite the generosity of its supporters, with an average pledge of over $50, that’s just 67% of its $500,000 goal, meaning developer Phosphor Games will receive nothing at all. It’s a sad result for a promising concept with so much history, but Phosphor has said it will just keep plugging away whenever it has time.

Project Awakened developer Phosphor Game Studios has been turning heads recently thanks to its Unreal Engine 4 tech demo that shows off a new level of character customisation. Unfortunately it still needs just under $200,000 to turn that dream into reality with less than 30 hours of crowd-funding to go.

Project Awakened only have three days left to reach its Kickstarter funding goal, and to help matters along, Phosphor has announced the game’s composer to be none other than Journey’s Grammy nominated Austin Wintory. He was also the composer for the firm’s mobile title, Horn. The project is currently sitting at $229,496 towards its $500,000 goal, and 5,547 backers have contributed to the project. Earlier this week, the firm updated its project page with a Unreal Engine 4 tech demo, showing off the game’s character customization.

Horn has launched on iDevice, and is available from the App Store for $7 or regional equivalent. This is interesting for a couple of reasons; firstly, because it’s the latest from The Dark meadow developer Phosphor Games, and secondly, it’s the first release from Zynga’s Partners for Mobile publishing platform. Finally, it looks super sweet, with full 3D navigation through the environments. Hit the break to see some screenshots. An Android release is promised soon, if you’ve got one of those new-fangled Tegras.

Phosphor Games has detailed its next mobile gaming effort, a fantasy adventure called Horn. According to IGN‘s hands-on report, the third-person action game is fully navigable and explorable, unlike the on-rails experience offered by similarly beautiful rival Infinity Blade. The screens look pretty damn shiny and so does the commitment to pure tap controls – no virtual buttons. Phosphor’s last release, Dark Meadow, garnered plenty of fans, so keep an eye out for Horn; no release date has ben announced.

As revealed the the VGAs over the weekend, indie iOS horror title The Dark Meadow is on the way to Android devices with enough grunt – namely, a Tegra 3 – to power its Unreal Engine-powered graphics. This Deluxe Edition version isn’t a straight port, but will feature upgraded graphics and tech; crossbows at the ready for early next year. With Midway Chicago being sold to Warner, the team behind the open-world action game Hero lost all assets, code, art and everything else pertaining to it in the process. So, when the remnants of that team went on to form Phosphor Games, it decided to continue work on the game in the form of Awakening, but unfortunately, it had to start all over from scratch.
