Telltale teases crossover of Sam & Max, Penny Arcade, Strongbad, and… Team Fortress?

So a homicidal rabbit, a dog detective, two people who may eventually attain sainthood while writing about “dickwolves” on the side, a luchador who reads emails for a living, and – for some reason – Team Fortress 2′s Heavy walk into a bar…

Penny Arcade Expo 2009 gets dated, registration open

Penny Arcade Expo dates for 2009 have been announced and pre-registration opened.
PAX 2009 will take place September 4-6 at the Washington State Trade and Convention Center in Seattle.
It’s going to be massive this year, so get involved now.
“Every year, we essentially double our attendance, but let me say right now that’s not happening for 2009,” said Penny Arcade’s Robert Khoo.
“We’ve rented every square foot in the center and it still won’t be enough. The facility has requested that we not exceed capacity, so we’re going to be closely monitoring the number of badges we sell this year.
“But, fear not. Our goal is the same as ever: to offer a world-class show to all attendees, focusing on amazing content and experiences for the truly hardcore.”
Last year’s keynote was given by Ken Levine, but there’s no word yet on who will deliver it this year.

Penny Arcade surveys 40,000 gamers on net speed and console ownership
Penny Arcade’s surveyed 38,350 readers on their gaming preferences, which has to be the largest sample of its type. Like, ever.
It’s well worth a nose. The average age of those questioned is 26, and 94 percent of them are male.
They’re not too keen on PS3 either, apparently.
Console Ownership:
- PC: 86.3%
- Xbox 360: 54.1%
- Wii: 53.5%
- PS2: 52.7%
- Nintendo DS: 51.5%
- iPhone/iPod: 29.9%
- XBOX: 26.2%
- PS3: 24.5%
- Sony PSP: 20.5%
Take a look.

Penny Arcade’s annual Child’s Play charity comes to a close, demolishes records
Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity – which sees gamers of all walks of life and stations of play donate cash to sick children in hospitals – recently wrapped up its 08/09 campaign. The final tally? Excuse us for a moment as we shove aside a few words to make space for this gargantuan number.
$1,434,377.
This, of course, smashes Child’s Play’s 2007 record of $1.3 million. All to purchase games and toys for sick children. And people say gamers are a despicable lot.
Great job to everyone who donated, and here’s to an incredibly child-friendly 2009/2010 season.
Thanks, Kotaku.

PAX organizers not afraid of new E3, say ESA approaching it from “wrong angle”
Before yesterday’s announcement of the new E3, many considered Penny Arcade Expo to be “the new E3.” So, now that the industry’s best-known conference has popped a few pills and stormed out of the ICU, is PAX feeling the heat? Nope. Not even a bit.
“I … can’t imagine it stealing any of our thunder,” Penny Arcade co-creator Mike “Gabe” Krahulik told Edge. “We have a ridiculous amount of thunder and honestly if they were to steal some of it we probably wouldn’t even notice.
“I don’t see it having any effect on PAX, no. E3 has always been and looks like it will continue to be about the industry. PAX is about the community around games as much as it’s about the games themselves.”
However, competition or not, Krahulik offered a few fighting words for the E3 and the ESA.
“I assume what they want is publicity for their games and a chance to get the word out about what they’re working on. I just think they’re coming at it from the wrong angle.”
Power to the people. Click through the link for the full interview.

East coast PAX announced for 2010
This, ESA, is how you do a games show. Penny Arcade’s announced an East Coast version of PAX, scheduled to happen for the first time in 2010.
Said Tycho:
People sometimes call PAX “The New E3,” but that never sat right. It’s better to say that PAX is everything E3 isn’t. We made it the opposite on purpose – public instead of private, fun instead of work. It’s about people who make and play games, instead of the games themselves. This is all pretty obvious in retrospect, but for some reason no-one else had done it. It deserves to be on the East Coast. Frankly, it should be global. I’m working on it.
More through there.
