Microsoft patent app points to scalable console platform

The recent publication of a patent application, filed by Microsoft in December 2010, suggests that the platform holder has considered the notion of console hardware that can be customised and upgraded over time, Eurogamer has reported.

Biometric controller application filed by Sony

Siliconera has dug up a patent application Sony filed in 2010 containing diagrams and biometric-equipped descriptions of DualShock 3, Move, and a handheld similar to Vita. The description states the controllers could monitor a player’s bio-data with various possible uses depicted such as: noting stress levels so as to adjust a game’s difficulty level, increased weapon accuracy or even an in-game character piping up to comment on the player’s state of mind at the time. The tech is similar Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor, announced at E3 2009 and yet to see a release. We’ll send a mail. Thanks, Gamespot.
