Casual sector to top $1bn by 2013

Research firm Parks Associates has predicted that casual games will be worth $1 billion PA by 2013.

Parks boss Stuart Sikes said that “a persistent identity and integration with social network sites” will allow casual game companies to maintain their core audience and broden their appeal.

“As companies try to capture subscriber dollars, these offerings will serve as differentiators in a very competitive market,” he added.

Online revenue to reach $8 billion by 2013, researchers say

A new Parks Associates report has predicted that online revenue will reach $8 billion by the year 2013, reports Gama.

“Parks Associates’ research shows that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo stand to reap big gains thanks to revenue streams from digital distribution, downloadable games and content, and multiplayer gaming services,” says the piece.

Michael Cai, Parks Associates’ director of Broadband and Gaming, says that “led by Microsoft’s success in Xbox Live, all three console makers are dreaming up many innovative offerings to entice console households to get connected and spend more money.”
