Operation Flashpoint 2 confirmed for 360 and PS3 this summer, movie released

Codemasters just confirmed that Operation Flashpoint 2 will get 360 and PS3 versions this summer.
The game, built on Codemasters’ EGO engine, was previously only announced for PC.
The publisher’s gone to town on the multiplay war sim’s underlying tech in a press release this afternoon, saying the game is like nothing seen before.
“The advantage of investing in our own technology is that we can custom-build major engine components specifically suited to each title; such as dynamically lit particle effects for gunfire and explosions, incredible vehicle detail and extensive worlds that you can literally get lost in,” said Brant Nicholas, senior producer.
There’s a new video here.

The war sim’s been under fire a little from some steady ArmA II upates in the last few weeks, but those shots look fairly amazing, so fingers crossed.

Operation Flashpoint 2 pinned for “summer 2009″

Codemasters got a little more specific on the release date of Operation Flashpoint 2 this morning, telling VG247 the sequel will release this summer.
“Flashpoint is currently slated officially as ‘Summer 2009,’” said a rep, adding that the firm couldn’t be “any more precise than that right now.”
The game was down for a “2009″ date up to now.
The military sim was fully announced last year. It was originally planned for “winter” 2008, but was moved into 2009 in July.
Codemasters itself is developing the game, after dropping Bohemia Interactive, the creator of the first title.

Codemasters launches “drive” for Russia
Codemasters is to translate all its major upcoming games into Russian as part of a “global drive,” the firm announced today.
Rise of the Argonauts, Damnation and Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising are all getting the Cyrillic treatment.
“Codemasters has targeted Russia as a front-line territory, key to our overall EMEA strategy” said Codemasters’ Axel Herr, probably while thumping a table.
“Localisation and tailoring of content is key to our emerging market strategy and Codemasters is keen to continue leading the charge in these fast-evolving markets.”

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising lets you blow things up
Gamespot has had a gander at Codemasters shooter Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising this week, and has revealed that you can blow up trees and stuff.
“Now, you won’t be able to actually blow up or off pieces of the island with your giant bombs and dangerous guns. Instead, the developers will populate the island with all sorts of trees and structures for you to blow up instead,” says the article.
Sounds like our sort of game. Trailer here. Full thing through the link.

First Operation Flashpoint 2 trailer released
After the break courtesy of IGN, the best games media site in the world. The movie’s CG, but it passed the goosebump test, so we’re looking good. Any game that can relay the ridiculous horror of piling out of the back of an APC in the middle of a field to shoot at a distant with an assault rifle is going to be worth a look. So do.

Exclusive new Operation Flashpoint 2 shots
After the break. These screens are ahead of tomorrow’s video and screen update, as reported on yesterday. Initial looks at this tell of something exceptional in scope, so keep a close eye on the official site on Friday.

Operation Flashpoint 2 moves to 2009, first trailer this week
The official Operation Flashpoint 2 site has gone live, as has the news that the game will no longer release this year: the most ridiculously amazingly detailed representation of war in development will release in 2009.
The game was pegged for a “winter” release back in March.
The site also brings word that the game’s first trailer is to release on July 11, or “Friday” in normal speak. We’re assured that the site’s gallery is to be updated then as well, as the shots in there at the moment are from last year.
More later this week.

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is “mind-bogglingly vast”
CVG is reporting that the latest issue of PC Gamer UK contains a huge Operation Flashpoint 2 reveal.
The mag says that the tactical shooter is “the most mind-bogglingly vast and mercilessly realistic battlefield gaming has ever known,” adding, “It’s a game being built to exacting specifications by military obsessives, to simulate the authentic behaviour of battle-hardened troops and push PCs to their limits.”
Sounds as though someone likes it.

New Operation Flashpoint 2 shots emerge
These are only the second set of shots to ever be shown of Codemasters’ upcoming war sim, so take a good look at the ever-vigilant Czech Tiscali Games’ gallery.
Codemasters confirmed this week that the title would be releasing this winter. If the first one was anything to go by, you could be looking at the cult combat classic for the end of the year.

Operation Flashpoint 2 confirmed for “winter” release
Codemasters has just confirmed that Operation Flashpoint 2 is currently down for a winter release and a formal date announcement can be expected shortly.
The game’s “launch timing is to be revealed as a countdown over next couple of months,” a spokesperson told videogaming247.
Operation Flashpoint was a breakthrough PC shooter in which players could use vehicles as well as their feet to accomplish missions. PC fans loved the “realism”.
The sequel was originally under development at Bohemia Interactive, the team behind the first title, but has since been moved to an internal team at Codemasters and renamed Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. The game’s scenario is a Russian-Sino-US conflict.
This is listed for release on PS3 and 360 as well as PC. More soon.
