Official PlayStation Magazine UK’s editor-in-chief, Ben Wilson, has revealed through the mag’s latest podcast that a new user-generated PS3 game will hit later in the year.

Without revealing what it was, Wilson went on to say that it’s also an open-world title.

“There is another game that we can’t talk about – I’d love to – that we know, where it’s an open-world game that’s coming out this year,” said Wilson while chatting about GTA.

“Everyone’s looking at me confused – this is genuinely true, I’m not making this up. “Basically it’s an open-world game where people will be able to design their own missions online and share them.”

You can hear it for yourself around the 30-minute mark here.

We’ve no idea what this could be. There’s already Red Dead Redemption, Agent, Mafia II, and L.A. Noire, but as far as we know, none of those include user generated missions, plus each one has been known about for ages.

Then again, it could be inFamous 2, but if it actually comes out this year, we’ll run out to the barn and kiss a horse.

We’ll be sure to apply lipstick first though.

Thanks, SCRAWLfx.

When True Crime is released later this fall it’ll stick firmly to the real world – just action, kung-fu, cars and awesome. United Front showed us the game at GDC today: hit the links for general details, news on the games reputation system, details on the game’s “mature” nature, screens and video, and confirmation of a lack of DLC.

United Front Games is showing the title in its pre-Alpha stage in San Francisco this week, and it is definitely full of punching and racing around in vehicles, and looks the real Hong Kong – there are cleavers in abundance.

Don’t worry. There will be guns too – the developers still wanted you to be able to shoot something. That was very nice of them, ya know.

The team spent quite a bit of time in Hong Kong, and took over 27,000 reference shots to make the environment of the game as authentic as possible, which will be abundantly clear once you see it in action.

There are four different districts of the city. Each one has its own architecture, as well as day and night cycles with an obvious difference between the two. We were not shown daytime levels, but the night is full of bright neon and markets like the real deal.

The game is out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall. The first screens and video are posted for you below. Enjoy.

ACTIVISION CONFIRMS PROTOTYPETM LAUNCH TIMING

Radical Entertainment’s shape-shifting phenomenon confirms North American and European ship dates, debuts new intro cinematic movie on official website

London, UK – 8th April, 2009 – No conspiracy here…we promise… Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) confirmed today that the long-awaited open-world action thriller video game PROTOTYPETM will ship in European territories on June 5 and to North American retailers on June 9, arriving in stores shortly thereafter. Fans of the infamous Alex Mercer should also be sure to check out the newly updated official game website located at www.prototypegame.com to gain access and view newly added game information and content, including the first half of PROTOTYPE’s must-see intro cinematic.

PROTOTYPE lets gamers feel the power of being the ultimate shape-shifting weapon. You are the PROTOTYPE: Alex Mercer – a genetically mutated man without memory, armed with amazing shape-shifting abilities, hunting to discover what created you and determined to make those responsible pay. As Alex, gamers tear through a densely populated contemporary New York City moving with Parkour-style fluidity, consuming anybody that gets in their way…assuming their physical form, memories and abilities. Fueled by a three-way war between Alex, the Blackwatch (military) and a viral outbreak known as the Infected, players venture into a deep, dark conspiracy 40 years in the making!

PROTOTYPE is currently rated “RP” (Rating Pending) by the BBFC with an expected “18” rating and will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Games for Windows® and PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system.
