Oblivion bundled with BioShock is not GotY edition

A representative from Bethesda has confirmed to us that the version of Oblivion contained in upcoming bundle with BioShock is not the Game of the Year Edition.
Since both games were winners of the prestigious award, there was some confusion over whether Oblivion would include Knights of the Nine, Shivering Isles and the much loved Horse Armor.
But, no. It won’t. Bethesda said so.
Sorry folks.

[Update] BioShock and Oblivion get bundled together

2K Games and Bethesda have teamed up to offer BioShock and Oblivion in a bundle to be released on July 7 for PC and Xbox 360.
The PC version will run you $29.99 while the 360 version costs $39.99 – which is only a couple dollars more than buying both games used.
If there is anyone out there who has yet to play both games, this isn’t a bad deal.

Steam mistake reveals Elder Scrolls III & IV heading to service

A Steam leak has revealed that Bethesda titles The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth will land on the service soon.
Gamer Limit reports that an ad popped up with links to the three games.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines says DLC works better in smaller doses

Bethesda’s Peter Hines has said that the Fallout 3 developer has learned the hard way that smaller doses of DLC are best.
Speaking with Gamasutra, Hines explained:
“We did the entire spectrum for the most part. We did small things and then we did the really huge thing [with The Shivering Isles for Oblivion]. We did what I think was the first ever full expansion on a console for download. We looked at what we liked and what we didn’t, and what the people liked.
“What we discovered was that we want to be able to do stuff that doesn’t take a year to come out.
“All these people are out there playing our game by the hundreds of thousands on a daily basis and we want to be able to bring those folks something they could do in a much shorter time frame, rather than just saying, ‘See you next year.’
“That instantly ruled out doing a big expansion because those things just take so damn long to do.”
Hines went on to say that the Oblivion expansion Knights of the Nine was the first time Bethesda felt it got the length of a piece of DLC right.

Bethesda pencils in new Elder Scrolls title for 2010
Bethesda’s said it’s likely to publish a new Elder Scrolls game in 2010.
“At the moment we’ve got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there’s a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010,” said Bethesda publishing executive Paul Oughton.
“At the moment we’re not that interested in the Wii. We’re going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We’ll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles,” he said of the company’s publishing plans for the future.
The news will delight RPG fans hankering for an even nexter-genner Oblivion. Hopefully it’ll be set in stone soon.

Molyneux: Oblivion is like a 20,000 page book, you’ll never finish it
In an interview with T3, Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux said that playing a game like Oblivion that last for 60-70 hours is the equivalent of giving him “a book that is twenty thousand pages long,” which is something most people will never finish.
“Well, Oblivion was a fantastic achievement,” he when asked about game length.
“Now for me, as a designer, if I hear ‘sixty or seventy hours’, then in my mind that is the equivalent of giving me a book that is twenty thousand pages long.
“And if I said to you, here’s a fantastic book, go and read that… Are you likely to finish a twenty thousand page book? No.
“So in Fable 2, the story lasts thirteen to fourteen hours and by the end of that story what you are like, what you look like and how the world treats you is completely up to you,” he went on.
“If you want to be evil or good or kind or cruel, then that’s totally up to you. With Oblivion it was basically all about me killing things.”

Fallout 3′s better than Oblivion, says Bethesda
Speaking in London last week, Bethesda’s Peter Hines has said categorically that Fallout 3 kicks Oblivion’s ass all over town, girlfriend. He didn’t really say that, but you know what we mean.
“I have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout is a better game than Oblivion was,” he said. “For sure.”
Hines added: “I don’t have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game.
“But we’re also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we’re carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise, that are re-imagining this series from ten years ago, and there’s something that comes along with that. We’re very well aware of what we’re up against.”

Majestic responds to plagiarism charges over Limbo of the Lost
Majestic has issued a statement to Gamespot in response to accusations that point-and-click adventure Limbo of the Lost contains “similar” artwork to that included in Oblivion and Thief.
“In response to the shocking notification that some alleged unauthorized copyrighted materials submitted by sources external to the development team have been found within the PC game Limbo of the Lost, we (the development team) have given our consent and full cooperation to both publishers who are recalling all units from all territories immediately.”
So. Who’s actually to blame, then?

TriSynergy “shocked” over Oblivion similarities
According to this Blue’s News story regarding some striking similarities between point and click adventure Limbo of the Lost and Bethesda’s Oblivion, TriSynergy – publisher of the former – had no idea about any of this and is expecting to release a statement on the matter shortly.
“TriSynergy says they are just as shocked as everyone else at the screenshots showing elements from other games in Limbo of the Lost, saying they had absolutely no knowledge of this situation until it was uncovered by the gaming press,” said the piece.

Site calls out RPG on Oblivion theft
As you can see here, GamesPlasma reckons point and click adventure Limbo of the Lost looks more than a little like Bethesda’s Oblivion. Like, a lot like it.
So much like it, in fact, that the similarities are more than a little “suspicious”. This Strategy Informer story reckons Bethesda legal’s looking into it.
Take a look at the screens and make up your own mind.

Bethesda “has begun direct publishing operations in Europe”
Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax, is to open a London office and “has begun direct publishing operations in Europe”, the company just announced.
It’s unclear whether or not Fallout 3 will be self-published by Bethesda later this year, as the announcement said that ZeniMax is “continuing to work with strategic European distribution partners,” but that it “plans to deliver a range of compelling titles to the European market in the coming years, including the highly anticipated Fallout 3 in Fall 2008.”
Bethesda RPG Oblivion was published by 2K and Ubisoft in Europe.
“This is an important step for us as we look to expand our presence in markets outside of North America,” said Robert Altman, ZeniMax CEO. “We want to establish direct relationships with retailers and distributors throughout Europe and the UK as we bring exciting titles like Fallout 3 and Rogue Warrior to gamers worldwide.”
