November NPD – MS says it was the “best November ever” for 360

Microsoft seemed rather pleased with the NPD figures for November, citing the move of 819.5K units and calling it the “best-ever November in Xbox 360 history”, repeatedly.
The Seattle giant was also pleased with Modern Warfare 2 selling 4.2 million units on the console beating out the PS3 version by more than two-to-one.
It also brought up the fact that more than 5.2 million multiplayer hours on XBL were logged playing Modern Warfare 2 on the first day alone – which scrambles our brain to be honest.
Xbox 360 also led games sales in November, with four of the top ten console games with third party titles selling “more on Xbox 360 last month than on the other current generation platforms combined.”
Assassin’s Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dragon Age: Origins rounded out 360 versions on the NPD top ten and it was the company’s “best-ever November for game sales, reaching $514 million in total sales”.
Consumers also spent a whopping $838 million on 360 hardware, software and accessories, adding to the stellar month for Microsoft.

November NPD graphed and plotted
Matt Matthews’ relentless NPD analysis continues, with his latest Gamasutra feature carrying with the usual dump of graphs, words and numbers.
We’re almost at the full year, so this is a good one to watch. We’re sure there’s a page through there without a graph on it, however. We’ll let it go this time, Matt.

LittleBigPlanet sold 141,000 units in the US last month, top 20 revealed
According to this Gamasutra report, LittleBigPlanet sold a meagre 141,000 units in America in November. The game failed to reach NPD’s top 20 last month.
Sales for what Sony had previously predicted would be “the biggest title for Sony in all markets this year” were 215,000 in October.
Gama’s also posted up the top 20 for November, filling out the top ten released as standard by NPD.
The larger chart shows swift drop-off for both Fable II and Fallout 3 compared to their high positions last month, and an eleventh place for Wii Music.

November NPD – Everything in one place
One word: Wii. The Nintendo machine is peaking so hard it’s as though it’s been greedy with the after-dinner blotters. The only way is down, Nintendo. The soul-searching in the mirror. The burst veins in the lips. The crumbling, acid-ravaged hole in the gut. Or is it?
Here’s what happened at American retail in November. It’s got nothing to do with class A drugs. Or has it?
- November NPD: Wii sells over 2 million consoles to blitz hardware race
- November NPD: Gears of War 2 pips CoD to number one
- November NPD: US industry nears $3 billion, up 10%

November NPD: Wrath of the Lich King sells 1.4 million
While Gears of War 2 led console software sales in the last night’s November NPD, house analyst Anita Frazier did make one mention of a PC game – Wrath of the Lich King did quite well at retail in the US last month.
“We would be remiss not to point out the strength of PC game sales this month as lead by the release of the latest World of Warcraft expansion pack,” she said.
“Wrath of the Lich King sold over 1.4 million units in the US during its debut month at retail.”
For the console sales figures, hit this.

November NPD: Biggest American month ever for 360, says Microsoft
Microsoft’s post-NPD statement last night claimed that November was the biggest ever month for Xbox 360 in the US, “with record games, console sales and online momentum”.
Recent PS3-bashing continued from the firm, with Microsoft’s press release saying 360 was “continuing to widen its installed base lead over the PS3″ and had “outsold PS3 and PS2 combined” in November.
“We’ve created the optimal line-up of experiences this holiday season for families seeking lasting entertainment value, particularly during rough economic times in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, Microsoft entertainment boss.
“We have the largest library of games, TV and movie content and the most expansive and rewarding social experiences. We’re confident Xbox 360 will continue to drive record sales around the world this holiday and beyond.”

November NPD: Nintendo claims record sales in the US, Wii now over 15 million

Wii has now sold 15.4 million units in America, said the company. DS is now on 24.6 million.
“Nintendo’s record-breaking sales demonstrate that consumers are looking for the best value not only among video games, but also among all entertainment options,” said NoA marketing boss Cammie Dunaway.
“Shoppers are looking for gifts that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and Nintendo provides an incomparable range of experiences that gets the whole family involved.”
