North America cuts in Vanquish release line, gets it on October 19

Oh come on, North America. Are you really gonna be that guy? Europe and Japan got their places fair and square, and then they blink, and suddenly you’re up front – acting like you’ve been there the whole time?
But then, we suppose it’s not too surprising. After all, if Vanquish is “targeted toward Western audiences,” we figure releasing it in Japan first means Sega kind of missed.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma II brutalizes North American PS3s this September

Ryu Hayabusa may not be much into that whole “stealth” thing that’s got all the other ninjas talking these days, but that hasn’t kept him from sneaking onto the tail-end of September.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma II is actually launching first in North America on September 29, and then in Japan on October 1, reports Kotaku. Tecmo has also announced a collector’s edition that comes with a swank 80-page book and a $69.99 price tag.
In addition, if you preorder the game from GameStop, you’ll unlock a special costume for Ryu. And honestly, if you live in North America, where else are you gonna buy the game? Wal-Mart? Oh, that’ll show those big corporations who’s boss.

PS2 hits 50 million in North America
The PlayStation 2’s tenure as God-Emperor King of videogame consoles may be coming to a close, but at least it’s going out on a high note. According to a report by The Associated Press, the nearly nine year-old machine’s cash emissions are vomit-inducingly high, with 50 million units sold in the U.S. alone.
Will the PS2 break 60 million units, though? Well, that depends on Sony who – even though PS2 sales have nearly halved since last year – doesn’t plan on tossing the system aside just yet.
“We don’t intend on discarding the system any time soon,” said Sony Computer Entertainment America hardware marketing director John Koller.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope NA release moved up, no changes elsewhere
Square Enix RPG Star Ocean: The Last Hope is officially hitting the streets one week early – at least, if you live in North America.
According to an email received by GameCyte, Square Enix has decided to give the Xbox 360-exclusive’s release date a slight tummy-tuck, resulting in a February 24 release date.
Other territories’ dates, however, remain unchanged, with Japan joining Edge Maverick and co. on February 19, and Europe on April 24.
We intend to slay this three DVD-ed beast as soon as humanly possible. How about you?

Sonic Unleashed a little bit delayed in North America
Japan still has Sonic bound-and-gagged tightest, but North America’s now officially detaining the blue hedgehog-man as well. Probably as some kind of symbolic gesture.
According to IGN, Sonic Unleashed’s PlayStation 2 and Wii iterations will arrive on schedule, but after that, the scrambling begins. First up, the game isn’t hitting North American Xbox 360s until November 24 – a week after its scheduled release. The PS3, meanwhile, won’t be downing its helping of hedgehog until an unspecified date in December.
Bad signs? Probably. But we still hold out hope that the game’s been delayed because it’s too awesome, and Sega’s feeling merciful.
