This week’s Nordic Game Awards highlighted some of the amazing games to come out of that region, with indie titles trumping the major AAA releases on the night.

Nordic Game will be participating in Gamescom on August 19-23, and the game booth will showcase 24 Nordic game companies and organizations.

Some of the highlights:

• Fatshark
• Gogogic
• Hansoft
• Pixolane
• TeliaSonera International Carrier
• Tonic Games
• Unity 3D
• Zordix

These companies will be joined by: Artplant, Coldwood, Gotland University, Housemarque, Neogames, Nordic Soft Sales, PAN Vision, Producentforeningen, Redlynx, The Bearded Ladies Consulting, The Game Incubator, Tumbleweed and Virtual Air Guitar.

Nordic Game’s announced that attendance for this year’s event was up 38% over last year’s to 1,200.

Delegates from more than 300 companies attended the show, which formed a platform to 110 speakers.

We love the Nords. They’re awesome. Good news arrives today, then, that the Nordic Game guys are going to be representing more than 40 companies from the region at GDC in San Francisco later this month. Nordic Game’s stand is actually the same size as Epic’s, which Nordic Game boss Erik Robertson says is a statement of intent.

“We are definitely making a statement at the GDC this year with the placement and the floor coverage of the Nordic Game exhibition,” said Robertson, director of the Nordic Game Program. “Our games industry is gaining recognition for its economic potential in our own region and our strong showing at the conference and exhibition will highlight the importance of this industry in the Nordic countries.”

Go along and say hello at booth 5605 in the North Hall. Do some Nordic business. They’re good guys, this lot.
