Speaking to MCV magazine, Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton has said that he won’t rest until everyone in the entire world is playing videogames. He sort of said that, anyway.

You go, David.

Nintendo UK boss: “We have never neglected core gamers”
Nintendo UK head David Yarnton has denied that Nintendo ever turned its back on the hardcore, and has reiterated that new versions of “popular core gaming franchises” are on the way for Wii.
“It’s simply not true, Nintendo has never lost its passion for core gamers,” he told MCV.
“Nintendo would like to bring smiles to as many different faces as possible and produce games which appeal to mainstream and gaming audiences worldwide.”
He added: “We have never neglected core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.
“These games aren’t ready to launch – but are being worked on by all development teams.
“Recently launched popular Nintendo gaming franchises have included Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii and Wario Land: Shake Dimension. There is also a vast array of third party core gaming titles available for the Wii console.”
You heard it here first: Wii is the home of the hardcore. There’s a full interview with Yarnton in this week’s MCV.

WiiWare Europe date remains off limits
While Wii download service WiiWare has now been confirmed for a May 12 release in the US, Nintendo UK is refusing to be drawn on when we can expect to see the initiative in Europe.
“We’re not announcing Euro plans on this right now,” said a Nintendo UK rep, who also refused to give details on when we can expect to see an announcement.
Games confirmed for WiiWare so far are David Braben’s LostWinds and Flash-native disposable Defend You Castle. Braben declined to tell us when the service is to launch just before GDC, saying only that Nintendo was “very sensitive” on the subject at the moment.
Big delay for Europe? Say it isn’t so.

Nintendo UK boss: “We aim to be disruptive”
Nintendo UK head David Yarnton has promised that Wii and DS have plenty of room to grow in the UK and that the British arm of the company won’t be following the status quo in ensuring continued success for the machines.
“We aim to be disruptive and to surprise in what we do, be it advertising, PR, sampling and also how we deal with our customers and consumers,” said Yarnton, here. “Our rapid growth hasn’t come without issues but we are addressing them and looking to enhance the experience that anyone has when they come in contact with Nintendo UK.”
The company’s also “addressing” shortage issues, but is confident that steps to making more of its products available, coupled with an ever-stronger line-up, will see continued growth.
“In the UK we are continuing to work on further improvements with logistics and in addition we also have a fantastic line-up of new product to release that includes Mario Kart and Wii Fit,” said Yarnton. “But also we have ongoing titles like Brain Training, More Brain Training, Sight Training and the overall Touch Generations range that maintain significant chart presence weeks, months and – in the case of Brain Training – even years after release. So the focus is on both new software titles and existing ‘older titles’ that still have huge potential at retail.”
