New GTA DS official site displays Wi-Fi connection badge

The official site for GTA: Chinatown Wars has launched, and although there isn’t much to look at right now, there is the inclusion of the light blue Wi-Fi connection badge. Logically, this probably means you’re going to be able to play online.

Thanks DSFanboy.

Miyamoto flattered by Microsoft’s Avatars

Speaking with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto told of how he thought Mii’s and Avatars were two different things, but was flattered by Microsoft’s new venture.

“I don’t really use the term ‘avatar’ to refer to what we’ve done with the Miis,” he said.

“We created the Miis with the idea that the people you live with in your house or family, you also live together with inside the TV, and you can use those characters interchangeably in the games you play.

“To see that a company like Microsoft has taken something we’ve done and kind of looked at it in a way and brought it out on their platform to kind of show that we’ve done has become the standard, I find quite flattering. But on the other hand, I think probably the basic ideas behind perhaps those two different systems are different and because of that I think they will probably develop in different ways.”

Everything you missed from the Nintendo and Sony E3 press conferences last night

killzone220.jpg

Nintendo and Sony both put on there E3 press conferences last night, and while the fireworks we saw at the Microsoft event on Monday were lacking, there was still plenty of news for you not to miss. Some of you have lives, and we understand that, and therefore don’t want to spend your spare time following videogaming news on the internet. While we think you’re a bit odd, we respect your decision. Every story from both conferences is listed below.

Hands-on with Animal Crossing: City Folk

Gamespot got to go hands-on with Animal Crossing: City Folk yesterday, following the game’s announcement in the Nintendo E3 press conference. Snip:

We performed some of the usual activities, including fossil digging and weeding. We also joined Hannah in some fishing, though surprisingly, none of these controls involve waggling the remote in any way. To cast your line into the water, you hit the A button; ditto for reeling it in. Sadly, we didn’t get to leave the town and head for the city. According to Nintendo, however, the city opens up new innovations within the franchise. The most intriguing of these may be the auction house, where you and your friends can put items up for bid. You can also visit Gracie’s store, where you can buy seasonal items unavailable at other times of the year. Happily, though, she won’t be replacing the entrepreneurial Tom Nook, who will still set up shop in your town.

Shots and a movie here.

Miyamoto: WiiSpeak is to “connect living rooms to each other”

Shigeru Miyamoto has outlined his vision for WiiSpeak, the Wii microphone peripheral announced in the Nintendo E3 press conference last night.

“Basically, our idea with WiiSpeak is rather than to just provide a voice-chat function, we want to really connect living rooms to each other,” he said, talking to IGN.

“In that sense, the microphone in WiiSpeak is really designed to be able to clearly capture many different voices being spoken in a room at the same time and convey that over the Internet. It’s a very capable microphone and it’s designed with that intent. And so that’s why WiiSpeak has taken on the form that it has.”

Miyamoto talks “Wii version” of upcoming Zelda

Speaking to IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto has fleshed out a brief announcement in the Nintendo press conference last night that there are new Zelda games in the works.

“The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles,” he said, shockingly. “The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away.

“And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we’re having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version.”

Another guy played the drums. A virtual piano, guitar and violin were also shown.

The drummer guy used the Balance Board as drum pedals.

A band of Nintendo execs played the Mario music at the end of the showing. It wasn’t the best thing in the world, if we’re being honest.

[UPDATE]: Official Press Release says:

“Create a musical masterpiece with up to four players. Anyone can play the huge selection of instruments in Wii Music with simple motions—like strumming and drumming.

“Wii Music includes many other modes besides the main band jams, including several musical games and an enhanced video playback mode for recorded jams.”
