heavenly-sword

Namco Bandai announced during it’s GamesCom conference yesterday that it’s teaming up with Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory to publish it’s brand new title from the dev for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

The game’s development, which we know very little about at this point other then the platforms, will be assisted by producers from Namco Bandai America.

“This new project pushes our core strengths of rich story-telling, cutting-edge technology and exciting gameplay beyond anything we have created before,” said Nina Kristensen, co-founder of Ninja Theory.

“The support of Namco Bandai combined with the skills and talent we have nurtured over the years means that players are going to be in for a truly deep and memorable experience.”

The game’s due in 2010.

Thanks, Siliconera.

Ninja Theory: “We get along just fine with Sony”

Ninja Theory founder Nina Kristensen has told CVG that talk of bitterness between the developer and Sony isn’t true. Never saw that coming.

“We get along just fine with Sony,” she said.

The statement comes after a rumour yesterday that Heavenly Sword 2 – which has never been developed by Ninja Thoery – had been axed by Sony Cambridge and the developer was moving offices partly due to tensions between the two companies.

“It is true that we’re moving,” she said. “We move mid July and have been planning it for the best part of a year, there’s nothing nefarious about it. We are excited about the move – our new premises are considerably bigger and in an excellent location near the town centre.”

A Ninja Theory staffer has already responded to the rumours, posting on NeoGaf.

No Heavenly Sword sequel from Ninja Theory

According to this, Ninja Theory is not developing a Heavenly Sword sequel, and is instead creating a new IP for 360 and PS3. The game is already signed to a publisher.

The UK developer is also considering creating a CGI movie to stand alongside the new title.

“We’re certainly targeting a triple-A blockbuster, with two and a half years in production – a big game that builds on our core strengths of story-telling, cinematics and combat. But we’re actually looking at something in addition to that – we’re considering opportunities in creating a CGI movie using the game engine alongside the game itself,” said studio boss Nina Kristensen.

The Heavenly Sword IP is owned by Sony: there’s no word as yet as to whether or not a sequel will be released.
