EEDAR predicts New Super Mario Bros Wii sell $15m lifetime

EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich has predicted that New Super Mario Bros. Wii from Nintendo will be sitting pretty at Christmas, as one of the top selling titles for the holidays.

“EEDAR feels comfortable to make the prediction that the New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii will be one of the top titles this holiday season,” said Divnich. “While in the short-term the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may surpass New Super Mario Bros, in the long-term New Super Mario Bros will easily become the best selling title released in 2009 with expected lifetime sales exceeding 15 million units worldwide.”

Guess Reggie wasn’t just blowing steam after all, there.

GameStop agrees that strong sales are in the title’s future, as well.

“We have high expectations for that title, we think it’s going to be a strong seller for the holiday,” said the retailer’s VP of merchandise and marketing, Tony Bartel. “It reminds you of those endearing Nintendo titles of old, and anyone who’s played those and really enjoyed them will be flocking to this game. I think we’ll have very strong sales on that title and our reservations do support that.”

Screens for New Super Mario Bros. Wii are fantastic

nsmbw

If the new footage of New Super Mario Bros. Wii posted yesterday was not enough to quell your cravings for the game, maybe the screens posted over on Andriasang will do the trick.

Honestly, all the screens did for us was make our internal quaking a bit more pronounced, but that’s just us being excited over the game, just like a kid getting a Big Wheel for Christmas.

It’s out November 15 and 20 in the US and UK, respectively.

Remember: this is one of three titles Nintendo prez Satoru Iwota expects to sell over ten million units.

Iwata: 3 Wii titles have the “potential” to sell 10 million this year

satoruiwataa

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said he sees three titles being released this year – Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii Fit Plus – to sell over ten million units.

“I believe each of these three software titles have the potential to surpass 10 million copies worldwide in the whole fiscal year,” said the exec, speaking in an investor Q&A released by Nintendo yesterday.

He added: “We recognise this Q1 result is not the strongest and closer to the lower parameters of our expectations, but we expect we can reverse the situation through the full-fiscal year and therefore did not revise out forecast.”

Mario Galaxy 2 to sell a billion units at launch? Bet on it.
