The Michael Bay-directed trailer for Need for Speed: The Run was “liked” enough times on Facebook to warrant a release by EA. It’s posted below the break, and it is, indeed pretty swish. We noticed a couple scenes in it that reminded us vaguely of his Transformers flicks, but, we could also be imagining things as well. Watch for yourself below. The game is out in mid-November. Starting today, folks can unlock a Need for Speed: The Run trailer by “liking” the game’s Facebook page. It was created by Michael “everything is better with explosions” Bay, who apparently, “player the game and spoke with the creative production team to get a feel for the franchise.” The page needs 250,000 “points” in order for the trailer to unlock, and as of this post, there’s 63,976. The game is out later this month. Thanks, Blue.

Jason DeLong, executive producer at Black Box, has said the studio used DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine for Need for Speed: The Run as it was intent on making a “Hollywood” experience.

EA released the demo of Need for Speed: The Run today on Xbox Live and PSN, and Ve3tro has captured the race event from it. In the videos below the break, you’ll see the Lamborghini Gallardo racing down the road, and if you invite a friend to play with you, you’ll unlock the Porsche 911 Carrera S. The game will be made available on the aforementioned consoles, as well as 3DS, PC, and Wii November 17.

EA has released new screenshots showing of the Million Dollar Highway in Need for Speed: The Run. Also known as Route 550, the road is a spur route of Highway 50 which stretches from Bernalillo, New Mexico to Montrose, Colorado in the US.

Joystiq reports that a Need for Speed: The Run demo has been scheduled for release on console networks on October 18.

In the interim, EA has yanked the announcement, suggesting a change of plans may be on the cards.

The demo was reportedly to feature a desert race in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni, and to support a “refer a friend” feature giving players access to a 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Need for Speed: The Run is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mid-November.

EA has announced that Sports Illustrated swimsuit models Irina Shayk and Chrissy Teigen will play guest starring roles in Need for Speed: The Run. In addition, the partnership between the two firms hands out a new SI subscription offer.

EA and Black Box have released a video which gives you a glimpse of the story in Need for Speed: The Run. Apparently, Jack is a wanted man, and he must drive 3,000 miles of “unforgiving asphalt,” from San Francisco to New York armed with only guts and instinct to get him through alive. It’s out November 15 n the US and November 18 in Europe.

Need for Speed: The Run’s now confirmed for a December 1 release in Japan on PS3, 360, Wii and 3DS. It was announced after the end of a, quite frankly, badly-controlled demo by EA Japan at a stage show for the game by Sega, who are publishing EA’s titles in the country. Pre-order details, such as bonus cars and challenge events, were also mentioned near the end.

The game releases here in Europe on November 18, with a US release three days earlier.

EA’s dropped details of a tour around the UK at HMV Gamerbase, enabling Joe Public to go hands-on with Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed: The Run and FIFA 12. The tour kicks off tonight in Glasgow and continues in Edinburgh tomorrow, Manchester next Monday and Tuesday and concludes in London next Thursday and Friday. More details here.

FIFA 12 releases at the end of this month, while Need for Speed: The Run launches in mid-November. Mass Effect 3 releases in early March 2012.

Sony has posted a video featuring Need for Speed:The Run executive producer Jason DeLong showing the PS Blog how the Frostbite engine provides a more cinematic experience to the game. The video, which is posted below, also shows a play-session featuring cars speeding down Independence Pass in Colorado, which was also shown during EA’s gamescom presser. Other terrains are shown as well, and DeLong also discusses how the development went about incorporating the route players will take in the game. Game’s out in November.
