Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning had a “difficult” weekend, a post on the BioWare Social Newtwork reports, with lag spikes and zone crashes. It took Mythic’s team until Sunday to find the root cause, and severs had to be taken offline. Once Mythic has figured out who was affected by the downtime, which was unfortunately not announced in-game, it will compensate subscribers with ten days of game time and one Golden Writ, while all characters will reveive a 100% XP and RP boost for seven days; a stack of ten lesser bone wards; and a special title.

Bad news for Ultima Online players today, as Mythic Entertainment has rolled back the Atlantic server. All progress and acquisitions since Dec 5, 2012 7:00 am EST have been lost in the process, but no explanation has been offered beyond due to a mention of corruption in the announcement post. Affected players have been offered 30 days of free game time in compensation, but this doesn’t help those who lost years worth of items by transferring from another server during the last two weeks.

In a powerful blow for sanity, Mythic has released a patch for Warhammer Online which combines the heretofore disparate realm versus realm rewards into a single currency. A dedicated vendor has been provided so players can turn their hard-earned War Crests into useful items, namely experience and influence modifiers. More details can be found in the full patch notes.

The director of public relations at Electronic Arts has stated that despite the restructuring going on at the company, Mythic will retain its identity.
“There are no plans to change the studio names,” Tammy Schachter told Gamasutra. “The Mythic team is working on ongoing live support for Warhammer Online, Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online, and preparing for launches of WAR in Taiwan and Korea.
“Nothing changes in the day-to-day roles and responsibilities of the dev teams.”
When EA purchased Mythic in 2006, it changed the name to EA Mythic. Last year, EA was dropped from the name, so not changing it again is probably a smart move.

In an interview with EG yesterday, Warhammer Online’s executive producer Jeff Hickman and creative director Paul Barnett spoke at length about the forthcoming Land of the Dead zone in Warhammer Online.
Part of the Call to Arms live expansion, LotD will feature loads of stuff to do and various ways to get booty. It’ll be opened by “a race for access between the Order and Destruction factions,” apparently. Watch your step mind: once you’re inside you’re always open to attack from players of the other faction – even when in instances.
“Tomb Kings, or The Land of the Dead, is a massive zone which is broken up into two parts – The Necropolis and the Tomb of the Vulture Lord,” said Hickman.
“It is RVR-gated. In other words, each realm must fight for ownership and the dungeon is expected to change hands nightly. It is full of new and interesting Public Quests, new lairs, refreshing game mechanics, new rewards and loot and generally awesome new stuff.”
“It is the ultimate sandbox zone,” added Barnett. “Many of the great things from Darkness Falls will be built upon. Tokens, other loot methods, wide level range, and the thrill of your enemy always breathing down your back. Lots of opportunities for RVR within the dungeon itself.”
“You can be attacked anywhere in the Land of the Dead,” said Hickman. “There is a huge open-world area, but also some instanced areas. In any of these areas, your enemy can hunt you down and fight you (as long as they gain control of the dungeon while you are in it). Even the instances are not safe.”
Sounds excellent. Hand on our heart, we think it does.

Warhammer Online creative director Paul Barnett has told Gametrailers in a video interview that WoW is like The Beatles, “and if you try and be like the Beatles, you’ll and end up like The Monkees. We don’t want to be The Monkees,” he said. “We’re Led Zeppelin.”
Quite. More down below.
