Good news, Whedonites – Massively reports a newly-founded developer called Multiverse Foundation has picked up the freely-released source code for the canned Multiverse MMO platform project. The new team is apparently “starting work full-time on the actual MMO creation platform” and will move on securing the rights to Firefly as its first game if fan interest is strong enough.

Multiverse, the developer behind planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly MMOs, has closed down, citing a lack of “profitable business model”. The company claims to have drawn interest from “thousands” of developers in its line of MMO middleware. Neither of its flagship titles had been shown in detail.
