DLC for Mortal Kombat vs. DC canned

Ed Boon has confirmed via Twitter that Midway will not release the planned DLC for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Two characters were planned to be released as DLC for the brawler, but now it seems likely to never happen.
Boon posted an image of Quan Chi on Twitter and stated that while he’s excited about MK9 and Warner Bros. taking the helm at Midway, he wishes the DLC could have been released.

First shot posted of Scorpion Fatality from next MK
Gaming Today’s posted up the first screen of Scorpion’s Fatality move from Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe, and it looks toasty. God knows if the game’s going to be any good, but at last you get to cook people by blowing on them. That’s all that really matters.

New Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe is faster than a speeding bullet
Just a quickie this one. In fact, it’s only 30 seconds long. However, it’s got Batman in it, and you see Superman running through buildings, so we couldn’t resist showing it to you.

MK8 was scrapped, says Boon
Kotaku reports that Mortal Kombat co-creator, Ed Boon, has said that as soon as the deal with DC Comics for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was solidified, all plans for Mortal Kombat 8 were scrapped.
Mortal Kombat 8 was shown at last year’s Midway Gamer’s Day, and was said to have been heavily influenced by the look and feel of Gears of War.

Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe hands-on
Gamespot’s posted a play of Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. To sum up:
Based on what we’ve played, MK vs. DC seems to be headed in the right direction. The fighting system tweaks have a good feel to them and definitely give the action a comfortable feel. At the same time the new pro moves, or whatever they wind up being called, add a nice skill element to the action we like. Overall we’re pleased by what Midway is doing and anxious to see more, especially the story mode, to see how it all comes together. Midway reps told us that new members of the roster would be announced in the months leading up to release and tossed us two to reveal in this preview: Captain Marvel and Liu Kang. In addition, it sounds as though more characters are set to be revealed at Comic-Con. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is slated to ship this fall for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Check back for more on the game in the coming months and tune into our live E3 show next week where we’ll have Ed Boon showing off the demo.
Fancy.

Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe gets Catwoman
Catwoman has clawed her way into the upcoming game Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe game, says GameCenterOnline.net.
Here’s hoping that the Catwoman fighter won’t be as disappointing as the Catwoman film. Judging from how low cut her top is, we don’t think there’ll be any problems.

First MK vs DC action shots released
Destructoid’s posted some new screens of Midway’s Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
While the publisher’s claiming them to be the “first ever,” it may just be a half-truth: these do look to be the first in-game shots, however.
Going for a far more realistic style compared to “the other” superhero fighter – the properly mental Marvel Vs Capcom line – the images show Mortal Kombatant veteran Scorpion and others going up against some of the Justice League’s finest in a range of environments.

Fatalities Will be Returning in MK Vs. DC Universe
Good news for you MK fans: fatalities will be returning to Mortal Kombat after all.
Speaking in this Gamespot interview, Ed Boon’s confirmed that all of the Mortal Kombat characters and DC villains will have fatalities, whilst the DC heroes will have ‘brutalities’, because they’re goodies and aren’t allowed to kill people.
Brutalities will function exactly like fatalities, but without killing the opponent, so you’ll get to see Batman beating the hell out of the likes of Scorpion, which is always great.
When Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe was announced, Mortal Kombat fans were, to put it lightly, a bit miffed on the hazy future of the much-loved, really-brutal fatalities Mortal Kombat is known for.
If you’ve ever played a Mortal Kombat game, you can’t possibly have missed just how violent and gory it was, and the fatalities were always the goriest and bloodiest parts of the “experience” – whether it was impaling opponents on spikes or breaking them into little pieces, it was always full of blood.
So rest easy. Everything’s fine.
Thanks, Gaming Today.

New Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe art released
Couple of new bits of art on the official Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe site, showing a busted up city and a fighting arena being watched over by a huge red skull. Good to see the franchise growing up. The new images are in the “download art” section.

“Finishers” will appear in new Mortal Kombat
Following fears that fatalities would be removed from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, series creator Ed Boon has set the record straight on the issue. Basically, they’re in there, but they won’t be as brutal as they used to be.
“There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone or that finishing moves will be gone,” Boon told GameTap.
“We did acknowledge that we won’t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone’s head off and the spine being attached to it. But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game, that there are no fatalities in the game. It’s an assumption that, because the DC characters will be in there, those features will have to be dropped. My response is that, no, we’re modifying fatalities.
“But I have every intention to keep finishers. You know, to let gamers do a really cool secret button combination and follow with a really outrageous finishing move to end the match. The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it’s certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series.”
So now you know. The game is releasing for PS3 and 360 this autumn.
