A new playable guardian in the form of Bilbo Baggins has been added to Guardians of Middle-earth. If Hobbits are not your speed, you can try Bert the Troll – who tried to cook Bilbo and his merry band of dwarves at one point – on for size. Guardians of Middle-earth, the new MOBA from Warner, has been released on XBL. The game allows up to 10 players to play in five versus five competitive multiplayer battle arenas set in Middle-earth. A game trial is also available. Check availability in your region here. The game will cost you 1200 MS Points.

Guardians of Middle-Earth needs to be balanced perfectly in order for it to function as a fast-paced MOBA title. Developer Monolith has been clever in its update process by keeping its balancing database on the cloud, meaning that as soon as something breaks, an update can be rolled out immediately without having to go through timely certification via Microsoft or Sony. Monolith has released its behind the scenes look at Guardians of Middle-Earth. The developer’s video aims to showcase the reactions of several multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) pros once their suggestions have been implemented into the game overnight.

Guardians of Middle-earth has a new set of shots and a couple of gameplay videos available. Below the break you can have a look at Hildifons, a “resourceful Hobbit who can kindle fires and create explosions from almost nothing,” and then, there’s the embodiment of himself, Sauron. Players can also play in the game as Aragorn’s father, Arathorn and there’s also Runsig as well. The Lord of the Rings MOBA is slated for a northern fall release on PS3 and Xbox 360. Gotham City Impostors has arrived on Steam as a free-to-play title. It also includes various upgrade packs from $.99 all the way up to $9.99. Earlier this week, an update in the Steam database registry noted an entry called “Gotham City Impostors F2P Trailer”, basically outing the fact beforehand. Gotham City Impostors was released in February this year on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Warner Bros. has confirmed an earlier report of a round of lay-offs at its Seattle studios, which includes the teams behind Gotham City Impostors and Guardians of Middle-Earth.

A source close to WB Games Seattle has confirmed to Joystiq a number of lay-offs have occurred in the studio. Developers which work out of the Seattle arm of Warner include Monolith, Snowblind Studios, and Surreal Software. The redundancies first came to light via a tweet from 3D Realms founder George Broussard. The only title known to be in the works on the Seattle-end is Lord of the Rings: Guardians of Middle-earth. A round of layoffs also hit the studio back in November.

Warner Bros. invites you to check out the first two characters for its upcoming console MOBA, Guardians of Middle-Earth – although these two need little introduction.

Warner has released a new patch and DLC for Gotham City Impostors which contains a new mode called Bounty Hunter, the East End map, as well a mute/unmute functionality within the matchmaking lobby.
