Piracy will never be fixed, says SI Games boss
Miles Jacobsen, studio director at Sports Interactive, has told Videogamer that he believes piracy will never be fixed as the problem is a social one.
“I don’t know whether there is a proper cure for piracy without a change in society, to be honest,” he said.
“There needs to be some kind of copy protection in your product otherwise retail aren’t going to stock your product, so we do have to take some measures.
“We will investigate all avenues open to us once again for next year to see what the best solution is. What we believed we had this year was something that was going to be better for the consumer compared to the system where you had to keep the disc in the drive, which you don’t have to do with our system, and be completely unobtrusive,” he went on.
“I don’t think it will ever be fixed and it is a shame because the price of games would go down if the issue was fixed and we’d be able to have more people working on the titles.”

Everton FC signs SI Games’ FM database
Everton FC has effectively signed the database behind SI Games’ Football Manager 2009, giving manager David Moyes access to details on over 370,000 players and staff.
“The game’s database is a valuable resource with the most extensive scouting network in football so Everton FC is making a top signing,” said game creator Paul Collyer.
“I am personally delighted with today’s announcement as I’m a Toffees fan. Standing on the pitch with my signing on shirt is as close to my boyhood dream of playing at Goodison Park as I will ever get.”
“We’ve known for a while that teams use the game to research certain players, whether to buy or to check out the opposition, but this formal recognition by a premiership team is fantastic and we are sure it will prove a fruitful one for the Everton FC,” studio director Miles Jacobsen added.
It’s a funny old game.
