MGS4 sells over 4 million, Konami shows big profit for first fiscal half
Konami’s announced a $232.8 million profit for the first half of the year, with the firm’s video game business posting $268 million in operating income.
More than 4 million units of MGS4 – more than a third of total game sales – were sold in the period, with the games division pulling in about $950 million in revenue.
That’s “healthy.” More on Kotaku.

Kojima wishes people would stop asking about MGS4 on 360
Speaking to Eurogamer at Games Convention, Hideo Kojima said he’s had enough of people asking about MGS4 on 360. Not entirely surprising, really.
“I’ve been doing a lot of interviews and stage shows, and half the questions are like ‘Will MGS4 be coming out on 360 or other formats?’, and in the near future I hope they’ll ask me about Metal Gear, about us, about our future projects, and will stop caring about the hardware,” he said.
Pressed on MGS4′s exclusivity and the possibility of an Xbox 360 port, Kojima reiterated that the PS3 had been chosen because he believed that the series’ success had been entwined with PlayStation’s, and admitted that “because MGS4 was optimised for the PS3 it is probably not possible”.
“But, you know, what kind of disturbs me sometimes, because a lot of people ask me about this PS3/360 question, is that it’s not about the hardware – I want people to look at the game itself. Sometimes I even feel like it should be on a PC so that people don’t ask me about hardware and platforms,” he said.
MGS5 CONFIRMED FOR PC. There’s a full interview here.

Two MGS4 camo suits released
Konami’s put out two new camo suits for Snake in MGS4, according to this PS3F piece, namely “Laughing Camo” and “Raging Camo”.
If you approach enemies wearing either one, they laugh or “rage,” as you’d expect. Both suits are free. It’s a slow Friday, OK?

MGS4 finally gets Japanese launch event
Konami’s announced that there’s going to be Tokyo dates in the Kojima World Tour added for this weekend, June 28 and 29.
Hideo’s not going to be there, from the look of it, but fans may be able to get art director Yoji Shinkawa’s autograph if they’re fast enough. That’s a sketchy translation, but it seems as though he’s only going to doing 50 signings at each event.
If you recall, the Japanese MGS4 launch events were cancelled in the wake of a murder spree in Akihabara.

MGS4 rush pushes PS3 sales to 80,000 in Japan in past week
According to IGN, Famitsu’s reporting that MGS4 came close to hitting 500,000 sales in Japan in its first week of release, making it the fastest selling Japanese PS3 game and providing a huge boost to PS3 sales in the country.
Enterbrain figures show that 77,208 PS3s were sold in Japan in the week ending June 15. Japanese gamers bought 476,334 copies of MGS4 in the same week.
As you can see from last week’s hardware figures, the news will give Sony plenty to smile about.

Happier photos from the Tokyo Metal Gear launch
That’s better. Famitsu’s posted pics from the Akihabara Metal Gear Solid 4 launch (via GameFront), and there are people laughing, and everything. There’s a chap there with his bundle, looking all happy and shit, so we can rest easy. Space time continuum restored. Phew.
Thanks, Blerk.

Photos from the MGS4 San Francisco midnight opening
It’s a Snake photo overtron. Kotaku’s posted some photos from the MGS4 launch in San Francisco. These are your classic “men in a line” variety, but there is a picture of a man in a white coat with a knife, which kind of saves the say.

Photos from the MGS4 Osaka launch: no one turned up
These Kotaku pictures of empty shops full of Metal Gear Solid 4 boxes. Clearly, all the action was in America last night, as you can see here and here.

Even more Times Square MGS4 launch photos
This lot’s from Kotaku, and includes a picture of Hideo doing a “thumbs-up”, which is probably about as good as a picture of him smiling. All this actually makes us want to play the game. Goddamn you, Kojima.

More photos from the MGS4 Times Square launch
This looks as though it was awesome. Joystiq’s posted up pictures of the Metal Gear 4 Times Square launch last night, including shots of Hideo “smiling”. Incredible.

Shots from the MGS4 Times Square midnight opening
On PS3F. Looks sedate. Can’t see too much else out there at the moment on an MGS4 openings, but hopefully stuff will appear throughout the day.
