Nintendo: Next Metroid Prime might land on the DS

metroid-prime

Metroid: The Other M may be hogging all the series’ face time right now, but Prime isn’t ready for the retirement home just yet. Speaking with ONM, Nintendo’s Kensuke Tanabe indicated that Metroid Prime’s next foray might be a return trip to the Nintendo DS.

“We are always planning to make new games in the Metroid Prime series. Depending on the timing and the situation, we cannot deny the possibility of realising it on DS or DSi,” he said.

Well gee, that’s a funny way of saying “new 2D Metroid on the DS.” That is what he meant, right?

Metroid Prime producer hints at future titles for Prime series

metroid-prime

Metroid series producer Kensuke Tanabe has told Kotaku that Retro Studios are considering adding multiplayer to future titles in the Prime series.

Hear that kids? He said series.

“As all I take part in is the Prime series, I am not capable of commenting on the whole Metroid series,” said Tanabe. “But we will keep considering multiplayer for the Prime series. For instance, I think I can come up with some unique ideas using the Morph Ball, which is a specific skill of Samus’.

Good to hear.

Tanabe goes on to discuss loads of development stuff, and lightly touches on the “mystery” title the teams is working on.

Thanks, Joystiq.

Retro doesn’t rule out possible return to Metroid franchise someday

metroid-prime

During a studio tour of Retro Studios in Texas, IGN chatted a bit with president and CEO Michael Kelbaugh about the possibility of a return to the Metroid franchise.

“I think Retro will always be associated with the Metroid Prime franchise and who knows, maybe we’ll do another one someday,” Kelbaugh said.

However, he did note that for now the team was aware it would only be responsible for a trilogy.

Meanwhile, Kelbaugh said that Retroid is working on other projects now in order to “refresh” its development team.

Maybe is always better than no. More through the link.

Metroid: Dread idea is still “within my mind”, says Sakamoto

metroidotherm

Metroid producer Yoshio Sakamoto has confirmed that Other M is not a replacement for Metroid: Dread, as the game is still being kicking around mentally in his head.

IGN had a chance to speak with Sakamoto during the conference, and was asked why Dread popped up on DS lists a while back and disappeared.

“This is quite awhile ago – a few E3s back”. he said. “I can only say right now that this is Other M, it is not Metroid Dread.

“But as a concept the Metroid Dread idea does still exist within my mind so maybe sometime in the future I will be able to bring that to you.”

Good enough.

Nintendo teases internet with Metroid Prime content

metroid-prime

Earlier today Nintendo launched a new Japanese site for Metroid Prime, featuring a peek at two Wiimakes and Metroid Prime Corruption. At the bottom of the page there is some text stating “Another Side Story coming soon” and, “The Metroid Prime history followed from the perspective of a space pirate”.

IGN thinks that the new stuff will be nothing more than “web-based content detailing a side story”, but fans can always hope for more.

Japanese gamers will be getting the New Play Control version of Metroid Prime on February 19.
