Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions will arrive on PlayStation Network next week. The announcement stems from the latest PlayStation Blogcast. The ESRB rated the content for PSP, PlayStation 3 and Vita back in July. Known in Europe as Special Missions, the 1999 collection contains challenges bundled with the re-release of Metal Gear Solid in Japan and was sold as an add-on disc elsewhere. It contains 300 extra missions and a number of bonuses. Thanks, D’toid.

Hideo Kojima would like an external studio to remake the original Metal Gear Solid using the Fox engine. Speaking in a roundtable interview at E3 2013 attended by GameReactor, Kojima said he is looking for a third-party team to do the work. He said some of the mechanics would need updating, but it would be exciting for him, especially after Silicon Knights’ Gamecube adaption Twin Snakes and HD releases of the original game turned out well. That’s all he really said about it, but you can read more regarding the roundtable through the link.

Metal Gear Solid debuted a gorgeous brush-stroke style art style which later went on to become one of the series’s defining characteristics, linking artist Yoji Shinkawa with the franchise forevermore. For the 25th anniversary of the very first Metal Gear, the series’s Facebook page has promised the artist is preparing a “very special surprise”. Obviously we have no idea what it is, but the post calls for questions, so perhaps an interview or video profile, or even a livestream of a work in progress.
Thanks, All Games Beta.
