Metal Gear Online shuttering today

20120612mgo

Just a reminder that Metal Gear Online, the optional multiplayer component of 2008 release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is closing down forever today. The third-person team shooter fills us with fond memories of ridiculously long download times, irritating registration requirements and being shouted at by player character drill sergeants before you were allowed to actually play, and will be sorely missed. Possibly. Visit Konami’s announcement page for more information, and while you’re there, notice the mention of “this iteration of Metal Gear Online”. Hello, imminent Metal Gear Online 2 announce?

What Metal Gear is: “The joy, the smiling faces of people who accomplished the impossible”

metalgear38.jpg

We love you Hideo. Speaking to Der Spiegel – translated here by GamingInGermany, Kojima has summed up the past 21 years of Metal Gear as only he could: by making very little sense.

“Things you consider as impossible – around the world and in the game itself – are still possible,” he said. “In regards to the game’s creator as much as to the player. If a player completes a Metal Gear, he is supposed to question his ideas of what is impossible. The joy, the smiling faces of people who accomplished the impossible – that is what Metal Gear is about.”

One day it’ll all become clear. Or maybe not. Full thing through the link. Via Kotaku.

MGS4 install times revealed, Kojima makes in-game Blu-ray joke

metalgear30.jpg

Someone over at NeoGaf has posted the in-between-chapter install times for MGS4, the total install being 4.6Gb.

This comes at the same time as an in-game conversation between Snake and Otacon is revealed where Otacon is telling Snake he doesn’t have to change disks because of the capacity of Blu-ray.

As the Metal Gear Solid 4 street date was broken by Wal-Mart last week, spoilers and in-game have inevitably made their way onto the internet.

Spoilers through the link. Watch the video here.
