Konami has released the Metal Gear Art Studio, an online set of digital drawing tools. Apparently the brainchild of artist Yoji Shinkawa as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the online tools are supposed to be functionally identical to those used to create the distinctive brush-style concept art which has so defined Metal Gear. You’ll need to log in via social media, but then you can draw your own fanart and watch other fans add theirs in real time. Every three weeks, Shinkawa himself will select a number of artworks on a specified theme, with exclusive prizes on offer.

Metal Gear Solid debuted a gorgeous brush-stroke style art style which later went on to become one of the series’s defining characteristics, linking artist Yoji Shinkawa with the franchise forevermore. For the 25th anniversary of the very first Metal Gear, the series’s Facebook page has promised the artist is preparing a “very special surprise”. Obviously we have no idea what it is, but the post calls for questions, so perhaps an interview or video profile, or even a livestream of a work in progress.

Konami is to bring its biggest-ever playable line-up to this year’s Eurogamer Expo, giving attendees the chance to go hands-on with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, PES 2013, Zone of the Enders HD Collection and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate on 3DS.

To celebrate Metal Gear’s 25th anniversary, the expo will also feature every past Metal Gear game to play on the show floor.
