Amazon no long offering digital edition of SimCity for sale
Though you can still pick up a physical copy of SimCity from Amazon, the online retailer has pulled the digital download from its figurative shelves, in an attempt to prevent more people from paying money for a product they can’t use.

SimCity: EA disables non-critical features to ease server issues
SimCity server woes continue, and EA is working around the clock to put them right. In the meantime the publisher has switched off some of the game’s non-essential features to ease the weight currently bearing down on the game’s servers.

If you’re one of the folks who has been waiting to be able to play that copy of SimCity that unlocked like 44 hours ago, you’re not alone. But Maxis is working on it by trying to patch all the servers so hopefully they’ll work correctly. Cross your fingers.

SimCity cities to be expanded in the future
SimCity director Ocean Quigley has said the cities in the game will be come larger at some point, but he doesn’t know exactly when. Speaking with Inc Gamers, Quigley said the smaller-sized cities at launch were a “performance decision” and once “mainstream computers become more capable,” Maxis could “certainly make the city sizes larger.” SimCity will be available March 8. SimCity – second closed beta announced, video shows Heroes and Villains content
A second SimCity closed beta will go live on February 17, where participants will be testing an enhanced version of the game for one-hour. It’s the same part of the game which was tested in January, only enhanced. Those who haven’t already signed up can do so here. Registration ends on February 11. There’s also a trailer showing off the Heroes and Villains content included in the Limited Edition. The set allows players to create organized crime in the city and upgrade the police squad to a superhero status. Players can also unlock “a criminal mastermind by placing Dr. Vu’s Evil Lair” in the city. Get a supreme superhero to fight the evil doers by placing the Maxis Man’s Super Hero HQ in the city. SimCity will be available March 8.

The SimCity beta will run from January 25 – January 28, EA has announced. Those who’ve previously signed up are already in consideration for it, and limited slots are still available for late applicants. To be considered, sign up here by 2.00am, GMT on January 21. The beta consists of a “one hour slice of the game.” SimCity will be available March 8.

Zynga files countersuit against Electronic Arts over copyright infringement claims
Zynga has filed a countersuit against Electronic Arts, stating the copyright infringement suit it filed over The Ville has “no merit. Zynga’s counterclaim accuses EA of being “anticompetitive” and using ” unlawful business practices, including legal threats.” John Reseburg, an EA spokesman, told the New York Times the countersuit was “predictable subterfuge aimed at diverting attention from Zynga’s persistent plagiarism of other artists and studios.” EA’s suit is based on the claim that Zynga’s The Ville infringes upon Maxis’ The Sims Social.
