Rockstar has released a story trailer for Max Payne 3, which reveals the “web of intrigue” building around our jaded hero, starting with the kidnapping of Rodrigo Branco’s wife, Fabiana who was under Max’s protection. As he fights to uncover the truth behind the kidnapping, Max is pulled deeper into a vortex of violence and deception with little hope of escape as street gangs, paramilitary forces and elite police units fight for power and influence over the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. Rockstar has announced the official launch of the Max Payne 3 website, and with it the first in a series of “interactive features”focusing on the weapons in the game. The first of these features, a video showing the 608 Bull revolver, is posted below. The gun is very large and contains eight rounds of “staggering firepower” which can be deployed rather accurately over short distances. If you head on through the link, you will become privy to the first details on one of the “most vicious cartels” in Max Payne 3, the Comando Sombra. The game is out on PS3 and Xbox 360 May 15 and on PC May 29 in the US and June 1 in Europe.

Remedy’s moved on from the IP with Alan Wake, the latest installment being American Nightmare on XBLA, which is due sometime between next month and March. Max Payne 3 is due out in March.

Max will show off his various looks when Max Payne 3 lands on shelves in March. The game takes trips down memory lane, which explains why you’ll see him clean shaven in one shot, growing a beard in the other, and opting for the bald-and-bearded look in the other two. There’s an outline of how the game’s fictional special forces unit, Unidade de Forças Especiais, lines up with real law enforcement groups, as well as the gangs which inspired the baddies. The third game in the action series, developed at Rockstar Vancouver, launches in March for PS3, 360 and PC.

Rockstar has released a set of new screenshots for Max Payne 3 showing mainly the game’s multiplayer, but there are a few shots of the man himself from the single-player campaign in there as well. Max Payne 3 is out in March for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Rockstar announced today that it is holding a contest for fans of the game that will grant the winner a chance to get their face put into Max Payne 3′s multiplayer mode.

The developer has said that they are looking for more faces for multiplayer avatars, and if you follow @rockstargames and tweet using the #MaxPayne3 hashtag between now and January 13, your face could make it in.

Rockstar has announced that customers who pre-order Max Payne 3 at any US GameStop location or online, will get early access to the Cemetery Multiplayer Map. Customers will gain access to the map at the game’s launch, weeks before it will be made available for download to the public. The cemetery in the map is where Max’s wife and daughter are buried, representing the “tragic past” Max can’t seem to forget. The map is described as having a “snowy New York City skyline”, with sniping positions available among the monuments. The tombstones are destructible, and circular fighting arenas in a rotunda garden and a looming mausoleum are available as well. Max Payne 3 will be released in March, and if you’ve got the money, you can also pre-order the Special Edition which was announced yesterday,
