Bioware has announced a deal with Microsoft which will allow Silver members of Xbox Live to try out the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer demo. According to a post on the Bioware forums, the demo will come with Gold access when you download the demo – but only for a limited time. The demo for Mass Effect 3 launches February 14 on PSN and XBL.

EA’s sounded the bargin siren, pricing the original Mass Effect and Dead Space for £3 on Origin, while its sequels are £10 and £7 respectively. Dragon Age 2 and Mirror’s Edge are also in on the deal at a fiver a pop, while Spore’s available for £6 and Bulletstorm at £7.50. The deal’s available for a limited time, though, so get to it.

BioWare has released a new video for Mass Effect 3, showing the game’s multiplayer in action. Posted below, the trailer includes details about the races and classes you’ll be able to play once it releases on March 6 in the US and March 9 in Europe for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Enjoy.

The extra DLC options for Mass Effect 3 pre-orders continue today with the announcement of Dark Horse’s “Art of the Mass Effect Universe” book. If you pre-order the art collection through Barnes and Noble, you’ll receive download code for character boosters and a Collector Assault Rifle for multiplayer. Here’s the word on the rifle: “The Collector Assault Rifle uses the same principles as a human assault rifle, but its organic components clearly set it apart. Its power source appears to be an internal organ with biotic capacitance; its ammunition resembles pellets of metallic enamel that strip shields off enemies with deadly efficiency.” So, there you have it. Mass Effect 3 is out in March.

US retailer BigBadToyStore has posted a listing for Mass Effect 3 figures which include downloadable in-game bonus items exclusive to the North American release. Figurines for Miranda, Garrus, Mordin and Legion cost $17.99 each or in a four-pack for $67.99. Another pack containing Tali, Thane, Grunt and Shepard is currently on backorder, and are listed for the same price. The DLC content wasn’t mentioned in the report on MCV or in the retail listings. Mass Effect 3 is out in March for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

BioWare’s Nick Clifford has said Mass Effect 2′s opening sequence wasn’t approachable enough for those jumping on board the series.

The latest Mass Effect tie-in novel, Deception, goes on sale on January 31. Although penned by William C. Dietz, it continues the storyline of the previous novels written by Drew Karpyshyn, and focuses on Gillian, Grayson’s Biotic ward. No word on whether David Anderson, the only character to appear prominently in both books and games, makes a return as well. You can read an extract on the BioWare Blog which may answer that. Mass Effect 3 is due in March on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, if that somehow slipped your mind despite being hardcore enough to have read three tie-in novels already.

Bioware has said one of the philosophy’s behind the development of Mass Effect 3 was “go big or go home,” according to lead series writer Mac Walters.

BioWare and Dark Horse have teamed up again to offer a new Mass Effect comic. This one is called Mass Effect: Homeworlds and includes plenty of commando type James Vega, a new addition to the cast in Mass Effect 3. The comic arrives in April after the third game hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March. Hit up Kotaku for a couple of images.

Bioware has released a couple of new videos showing off Mass Effect 3 pre-order goodies, such as the N7 Defender Armor, the N7 Valkyrie, the M55 Argus Assault rifle and the AT12 Raider Shotgun. Bioware released a new video for Mass Effect 3 tonight, which received its world premiere during the VGAs. In it, Commander Shepard is trying to escape being obliterated by a Reaper when a Thresher Maw bursts onto the scene, inadvertently saving his life. It’s pretty intense to watch, and you can do just that below the break. There’s also a few screen grabs through here. Mass Effect 3 is out in March on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A demo is set for release in January, with Battlefield 3 players getting the first crack at it.

Bioware has released a new Pulse video which focuses on the combat in Mass Effect 3. Once the N7 collector’s edition plug is finished around the 1.50 mark, the developers get down to business discussing how the game’s enemies will be smarter and players will have class-specific powers to combat the extra IQ enemies have gained. These class-specific changes also apply to combat moves, so that each Commander Shepard will differ from the next. Mass Effect 3 is out in early March for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. [pic]
