There was always going to be a lot of pressure on the follow up to Minecraft. That game, 0x10c, has now been cancelled, and Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has written a new blog post about the decision.

Developer Marcus Persson has confirmed on his blog that Minecraft has now passed 2 million sales. The indie super-smash, which is still in beta, will release on November 11 this year, the same day as Skyrim. The current version sells for €14.95; revenues for the game to this point were estimated to be $33 million at the beginning of the month, based on 1.8 million sales.

Mojang has finally got around to putting a release date on Minecraft – so the team have a legitimate excuse to take time off and play Skyrim.

Minecraft creator Notch’s latest blog post has highlighted the contents of the next major update.
Promised “soon”, the update adds in the promised wolves, movable spawn points, a staistics tracking system, and achievements.
Mojang will then turn its attention to the neglected mod API, a feature much requested by the community as the game’s frequent updates currently break most mods.
