Magicka patched to fix lack of jokes in today’s news
Magicka has been patched, correcting a number of small issues and prepping the magical blast-a-thon for the most recent DLC release. But mainly why I’m telling you this is because the patch notes are significantly less boring than the usual title update run down, and act as an excellent advertisement for the game and its community. You can read them in full on Steam.

A magician gets ball-gagged in this live-action Magicka video
Paradox Interactive and Arrowhead Game Studios have released another live-action video for The Other Side of the Coin, the expansion to Magicka. Apparently, the magicians got themselves “stuck in the middle of an incident with an overzealous member of Alucart’s necromancers.” You can figure out what that is below. The Other Side of the Coin will allow players to don the robes of the bad guys Alucart the Vampire and his necromancer henchmen, and slap around the goodie-two-shoes of the Magicka world. The Other Side of the Coin is available through Steam and GamersGate, and other digital retailers. Play it.

Arrowhead has unannounced game in the works, wants “to move on” from Magicka
Arrowhead Game Studios has an unannounced game in the works, according to co-founder Emil Englund. The title is in addition to the firm’s Showdown Effect which was announced and shown during GDC. According to Englund, the development of each title is “just a break from Magicka,” and the firm is “really excited” about the unannounced title. The team has implemented lessons learned from Magicka’s development, and doesn’t plan on repeating the same mistakes this time out. “We learned so much… I think the one thing we failed at really badly was planning,” said Englund to Strategy Informer. “We failed to plan or estimate how much time the development would consume. Magicka worked fine in local co-op, but when it came to online… it was just abysmal. We’re really going to have to do this the right way this time.” Upon release, Showdown Effect will be available for both Mac and PC, and supports up to eight players with multiple game modes. Thanks, JamieD.
