Sony’s launched MAG’s official site. Unfortunately it includes nothing but a map and some kind of radio interference over western Russia and a few other regions.
Beggars can’t be choosers, however. At least you know it’s 99 percent certain the 256-player shooter will make it out this year.
Look for yourself, PS3 owners.

Zipper Interactive’s Tony Iuppa has told NowGamer that upcoming PS3 exclusive MAG was never intended to have an offline component.
“MAG is 100 percent multiplayer and has been since day one,” he said.
“This has let us spend all of our development resources on creating a deeper MP experience, which supports tight shooter gameplay seen in games like COD, but that’s just the foundation of our offering.”
Iuppa went on to say that his game is differentiated from the likes of Call of Duty by the fact it’s an online-only title.
“Call of Duty is a great franchise, and we expect them to continue to make great shooters,” he said.
“What really sets MAG apart from CoD and other shooters on the market, however, is our multiplayer focus.”
More through there.

These were knocking about at rubbish resolution at the weekend, but Destructoid’s got a nice set of what are apparently the first MAG screens. There’s some art there as well.
They look a bit too good to be fake, to be fair. But that doesn’t mean they’re not.
The Zipper PS3 shooter’s out later this year.

SCEA hardware marketing boss John Koller has claimed that upcoming multiplayer shooter MAG can only be built on PS3.
“MAG is a 256 online-player game which is spectacular,” he said, talking to VG247 at GDC last week.
“If you look at that competitively, it’s something that’s only possible on PS3. The processor speed, the ability of PS3 to showcase 256 players at any given time, and their actions.”
Koller went on to detail the Zipper Interactive game’s concept.
“It’s basically like an iteration of SOCOM, where you’re maybe commanding the SEALs, and someone else has the Rangers, and the Green Berets, and so on,” he said.
MAG was Sony’s “big” announcement at the end of its 2008 E3 press conference.
A movie was shown of the title, featuring soldiers, vehicles and lots and lots of guns.
It’s planned for release late this year.
Update: John Koller’s sent us the following statement as clarification to the comments made in this story:
“I wanted to clarify my comment as the broader point I was making is that our biggest franchises and our best developers from PlayStation 2 are continuing to transition to PlayStation 3, which will help spur PlayStation 2 fans to move toward next-gen gaming on PS3. Zipper Interactive is best known for its great work on the SOCOM franchise, and they’re building on their development experience to create a brand new IP in MAG. MAG is not a sequel to nor built upon SOCOM, and when the title launches this fall, PS3 owners will be able to experience intense 256-player combat, which is something that’s never been available on console before.”

Bitbag’s carrying a few screens of what is apparently a user survey designed to gauge reaction to various pricing plans for PS3 multiplayer shooter, MAG.
There are four options there, which include different publishers, which is interesting.
The game was first shown at E3, and is in development at Zipper.
It’s out next year. Hit the link for more.

The US PlayStation Blog’s published the first in-game shot of Massive Action Game, the big-ticket Zipper title shown in the Sony E3 press conference last week.
The resolution’s a little pony, but you can see it has the potential to be a technical marvel, what with its parachutes and 256-player combat.
There’s a bit more detail through the link.

Massive Action Game, while certainly an apt description of Sony’s 256-player action title, isn’t the punchiest moniker we’ve ever heard. Luckily, according to an insider who contacted Kotaku, the game’s current ID may soon be a thing of the past.
The source was apparently part of a focus group that saw the game a month or so before E3. They claim that the game may sport one of a few potential taglines, such as “Shadow War,” “Zero,” “Global War,” or “Final Hour.” Since Zipper Interactive, erstwhile developer of the SOCOM series, is slaving away at MAG, the insider believes it’s not much of a stretch to expect a new SOCOM title to be the end result of the whole deal. More telling, he says that Zipper used images from SOCOM 3 as visual examples of the possibilities that MAG offers.
In addition, the blab-prone focus tester detailed MAG’s rank system, which allows players to eventually reach a near RTS-like state of omniscient power – even allowing those high-ranked players to set objectives for their team.

Speaking to Gamespot after the Sony E3 press conference last night, Zipper Interactive lead designer Andy Beaudoin said that the aim of the newly-announced Massive Action Game was the create something that couldn’t be achieved on any other hardware.
“Obviously, with PlayStation 3 we’ve got a lot more power we can tap into to try to create different games, so we sat down and tried to figure out how we could take a lot of the shooter experience we had… and create a game that was going to be unrivaled,” he said. “Basically one that could only be done on the PlayStation 3.”
The game was revealed in the conference for the very first time last night, showing 256-player combat in a futuristic war setting.

SCEA just announced Massive Action Game for PS3. Zipper Interactive developing.
The game will support 256 players in single battles. It’s a squad-based combat title SCEA boss Jack Tretton says will “stretch PS3′s architecture.”
A movie was shown featureing huge battlefields, bases, bombs and vehicles.
The info came as part of the ongoing Sony E3 conference.
