Duke Nukem creator’s Ludum Dare entry is The Road
Here’s another piece of the spoils from the most recent Ludum Dare challenge, which asks designers to create games in just 48 hours. The Road comes courtesy of George Broussard of Duke Nukem and 3D Realms fame, and is a very minimalist platformer about the various challenges encountered in the course of a human lifetime – like drowning in a swimming pool or facing an alien invasion. It’s kind of neat. Don’t forget to check out Notch’s Drop, not a formal Ludum Dare game but created in the same spirit.

Notch’s Ludum Dare entry Minicraft playable now
Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has released his Ludum Dare entry into the wild, and you can play it right now. Called Minicraft, the game lets players explore random environments, harvesting resources and crafting new structures, with an end goal of defeating the Air Wizard. Sounds familiar, of course, but the perspective isn’t. The game was created in 48 hours as part of a rapid game making challenge, with Notch live streaming his creative process to eager fans accompanied by a dubstep soundtrack.

Notch to stream Ludum Dare entry
Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Petersson has confirmed he will once again take part in a Ludum Dare challenge, which has creators design and build a game in just 48 hours. The Mojang boss intends to livestream the process next week, so would-be developers should probably tune in. Noth also took part in the August event, and you can play his creation here. Visit Ludum Dare’s website for more information on the challenge itself.
