Interview – Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II’s Gavin Leung

In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, you battered Darth Vader and The Emperor, yanked a Star Destroyer clean out of the sky, and pretty much made every other Jedi ever look like a baby swinging a glowstick. So, of course, the question arises: how the hell do you top that?
We got a chance to quiz senior product manager Gavin Leung about what the TFU team’s doing to ensure that its force-fueled sequel is the next Empire Strikes Back and not the next Star Wars Christmas Special. Click past the break to hear Leung’s thoughts on why bringing back Starkiller’s the right thing to do, how to design a compelling story when we already know how it ends, stormtrooper-disintegrating force fury powers, and more.

Interview – Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Daniel Erickson (part two)

The Star Wars films have always had a nasty habit of making you wait years between sequels. What’s up with that? Us though, we’re not like mean old George Lucas. Waiting’s not our style. Yesterday: part one. Today: part two.
Jump past the break to hear Star Wars: The Old Republic writing director Daniel Erickson’s thoughts on MMORPG endgames, why you shouldn’t just play as a Jedi, how TOR’s MMO nature will mesh with its single-player heritage, the game’s art style, commitment (or lack thereof) to a release date, and tons more.

Force Unleashed II E3 trailer pits two lightsabers against a thousand stormtroopers

Can you guess who wins? It should be pretty obvious, after all. You’ve got one guy with a couple glorified glowsticks and enough armor to protect the most vital of vital points: his shoulder, versus a stepped-on ant hill’s worth of heavily armored, armed-to-the-teeth marksmen. This should be the most one-sided fight since Godzilla versus guy-he-just-squished.
And it is. Just not in the way logic, reason, and other things that don’t involve magical space wizards dictate it should be. Check it out after the break, courtesy of GameTrailers.

LucasArts classics coming to Wii

No, not those classics. But come on, you can play those golden oldies on everything short of the Colecovision these days. So instead, the Wii’s getting Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi “in the coming weeks.”
On top of that, “additional classic LucasArts games” are coming after the “coming weeks,” though no specifics were given.
Thanks, Shacknews.

LucasArts classics on the iPhone? “Wink, wink, nod, nod,” says LucasArts

Speaking with Joystiq, LucasArts CEO Darrell Rodriguez was about as committal as one can possibly be about classic LucasArts games on the iPhone while still maintaining an air of mystery.
“On iPhone, you know Apple’s policy that we can’t talk about a release until it’s ready to release. But it would make sense that we would do something like that if we were to go in that direction … wink wink, nod nod,” he said.
For those that can’t comprehend basic human body language or have been smote with blindness, he means “yes.” To which we reply, “Yes!”
More through the link if you don’t prefer to quit while you’re ahead at this whole being more excited than you’ve been in years thing.

ESRB listing reveals new portable Star Wars Battlefront games

Between all the action figures, iPhone apps, lighters, Pez dispensers, and other such memorabilia, getting your Star Wars fix on the go has never really been too difficult. But hey, it’s an ESRB listing for more Star Wars Battlefront. Complaining would mean having our nerd cards revoked forever.
The listing details two new portable entries in the series, one on DS and one on PSP. Both apparently feature all the usual suspects: third-person shooting, space battles, and millions of voices crying out in terror pain. However, the listing doesn’t say whether or not the voices are ever silenced. You be the judge.
The PSP version will also pull you out of the fray with a strategy-based mode. Other than that, though, the two teensy intergalactic tussles seem more or less the same.
Check out both game descriptions after the break.

New details surface for Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

Original Story: The recently revealed Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings is to feature a co-op campaign – in which Indy fights along side a previously unplayable character – and is set in various locations throughout the globe, Eurogamer reports.
The LucasArts title will ship for DS, PS2, PSP, and Wii, but has no set release date as yet.
Staff of Kings will pit the famous archaeologist against evil rival Magnus Voller, as both try to get their hands on the Staff of Moses.
Expect plenty of puzzles, gun play, bar room brawls and whip usage throughout. And yes, the Wii version will take full physical advantage of motion control for the whip bits.
Different vehicles will be available to get Indy around, including elephants, planes and tanks.
Multiplayer will include four-person interaction where you can wallop each other via different free-for-alls with biplanes, tanks and other as of yet unnamed modes.
Screens look a bit sketchy at present, but can be viewed here.
UPDATE: Looks like you will also be able to unlock the classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis game at some point (Kotaku). Might be well worth it after all.

Gladius 2 rumoured from LucasArts
According to this, LucasArts may be working on a new Gladius game. The name “Gladius 2″ was mentioned on the site of the guy responsible for a lot of Lucas’s Star Wars concept art.
The original Gladius was a gladiator combat game for last gen consoles, if you can’t remember that far back.

Lego Indiana Jones at GDC
Nice. LucasArts is going to give a live gameplay presentation of title, apparently, which has been under wraps for far too long. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Fracture are also going to be shown at the viewing.

Lucasarts president bows out, praises “fantastic team”
Jim Ward, LucasArts president, has confirmed his departure from the company after nearly 10 years, says this.
“I am so proud of all people and the work we’ve done together at LucasArts over the last four years,” he wrote in a letter to Kotaku. “It’s been an incredible experience. Together we’ve rebooted the company and set LucasArts on a path to even greater success. This is a fantastic team and they are positioned for their best year ever.”
No specific reason has been given for the departure, but other reports have said family matters are behind the move. The company is now looking for another president, with Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing and a 25-year stalwart of the company, taking on the role for the transition period.
