PC gaming is dead, but even so Steam has experience a 30 percent growth in its userbase in the past year and has hit 65 million accounts. Also it has more than 3000 games and software applications, so that’s cool. It’ll be interesting to see what Steam Machines do to the userbase next year.

Valve is set to launch the Left 4 Dead 2 beta on Linux this week. Those who already own the Steam version of the game will receive access soon, alongside the Extended Mutation System that has been available since February.

BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2 – Future Legend of Rhythm Alien has been sent to Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony for certification, Gaijin Games has announced. The firm this was “by far the most ambitious submission process Gaijin has ever done, ” and next on the certification list are the PC, Mac, and Linux versions. Barring any setback, the game is slated to release on February 26, according to its Steam listing. More through the link. Thanks, D’toid.

Some game pages have been updated on Steam by Valve to include Linux system requirements, perhaps hinting that an official Steam for Linux launch is approaching.

Graphics driver updates aren’t in our usual style but with the launch of the Steam Linux beta today it seems like a good time to be giving your open-source computer a bit of a spruce up. NVidia has released a new set of R310 drivers for a significant range of products, which it claims can “double the performance and dramatically reduce game loading times for those gaming on the Linux operating system”. The drivers were developed in collaboration with Valve and other Linux-friendly developers, and Doug Lombardi called them “an absolutely unequalled solution for Linux gamers”.

Haunts: The Manse Macabre, and Kickstarter project in the works at Mob Rules Games, has ceased work on the game after programmers quit, and funding was overspent.

The video is mainly highlights from the panel in which Harebrained Schemes discussed the RPG, which earned $1,836,447 in funding through Kickstarter. Trine 2 has an expansion in the works courtesy of developer Frozenbyte called Goblin Menace. The campaign comes with six levels, new skills playable in the original game, and general improvements and tweaks. Trine 2: Goblin Menace will release on PC, OS X, and Linux.
