Lineage II’s concurrent player-base has increased 800% since going F2P

lineage II - GoD

NCsoft has revealed some rather nice figures for Lineage II, which changed over from a subscription-based MMO to free-to-play back in November. According to the firm (via MMORPG), the concurrent player-base in the game has increased 800%, more than 250,000 players have used the “Path to Awakening service” the web-based system which rewards player for game progression and provides free items tofolks level up faster. The firm has had to more than double the number of servers to accommodate the new players, and even better, revenue for NCsoft has “quadrupled” in the last two months. Fans have also “liked” the game’s Facebook page more than 280,000 times and the game’s forums are hopping. Good to hear!

Lineage II artist Juno Jeong back with NCsoft, working on unnamed MMO

lineage II-0112

Lineage II character artist Juno Jeong has returned to NCsoft, as of January 2, to work on the firm’s next MMO. Jeong will be the art director of the unknown MMO project. After finishing work on Lineage II in 2005, Jeong worked for firms such as Gravity, NHN, and Npluto. Speculation on the web suggests the MMO could be Lineage III or Aion 2, the later of which will go free-to-play in February. Thanks, Massively.

Lineage II now free, better than wanking

lineage2

As promised, Lineage II – NCsoft’s stalwart online fantasy grinder – is now free. Assuming you don’t have anything better to do, you can now hit things with sticks for thousands of hours instead of going outside, pooing in the toilet or even wanking: why would you? You have the stick game. Get yourself a potty. Hit with sticks. Don’t wank. Or move. Stick-hitting for free beats wanking and moving. Poo on the potty and hit with sticks. You don’t even need a real stick. You will need a real potty. Or a real nappy. “Experience the grandest MMO and leave the rest behind!”

European free-to-play launch of Lineage II coming December

20111124lineageii

Publisher Innova has confirmed Lineage II: Goddess of Destruction will launch in Europe in early December, with localised versions in multiple languages to follow throughout early 2012. The expansion brings plenty of new content but also heralds the game’s transition to free-to-play after seven years of subscriptions.

Lineage II is one of the most successful of the “smaller” MMORPGs, with a steady user base of around 500,000. Its transition to free-to-play may signal news of sequel Lineage III, which has spent some months in Vapour land.

NCsoft ganks illegal Greek Lineage II operation

NCsoft has shut down an illegal Lineage II server operation in Greece.

The company’s announced that it obtained a court order against Internet Cafe business e-GLOBAL, following which four of its cafes were raided and illegal software was seized.

“Illegal game servers, such as those operating from e-GLOBAL, have a hugely negative impact on both NCsoft Europe and its customers,” said NCsoft Europe’s Max Brown. “They seriously affect the player’s experience of our products and rob the company of potential revenue that is used to further enhance the player experience on official servers. NCsoft’s loss in revenue from e-GLOBAL’s operation is estimated in excess of six million Euros. We are defiant in our resolve to stamp out theft of NCsoft’s intellectual properties and are prepared to take the strongest measures to do so.”

We bet they nailed those illegal Greek Lineage II players good and proper. Press release after the click.

NCSoft shows steady growth as Tabula Rasa takes over $5 million

aion.jpg

NCSoft’s just reported full year 2007 results, showing sales of $355.1 million and an operating profit of $53.3 million.

Although the company saw its sales drop 3 percent year over year, operating profit, pre-tax profit, and net profit increased 14 percent, 24 percent and 18 percent, respectively.

The report reveals that Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa has grossed $5.4 million since launching last year. Lineage and Lineage II increased revenue by 35 percent and 4 percent respectively in the fourth quarter compared to the third, while City of Heroes and Guild Wars fared less well, seeing sales drop 6 percent and 29 percent respectively.

Not much forward-looking stuff in there, just confirmation that Aion, as well as some casual games, will hit in the coming year.
