Guild01 on sale, Guild02 hints surface

20130416_guild02_level-5_black_box

Level-05 has re-opened its “Black Box” site. The last time we saw this particular teaser, it heralded western localisations of three games in the Guild01 compilation. It’s just the latest item to plonk on a growing pile of evidence suggesting some of the included titles are headed west; expect more information at this week’s Nintendo Direct. In related news, Guild01 titles are on sale on the 3DS eShop this week. Hooray!

Fantasy Life trademark filed in the US

20130403_fantasy_life

A western release of Level-5 and Brownie Brown’s unusual sim Fantasy Life seems more and more likely. In addition to a European trademark filed last month, Siliconera reports the developer has moved to secure a US one. Unfortunately, there’ve been no rumblings from any of the usual publishers, but perhaps a 3DS eShop release is possible. Fantasy Life released in Japan in December and sold out almost immediately; Level-5 is already planning sequels.

White Knight Chronicles servers to shutter

20110411wkc

A post on the PlayStation community forums advises that online play for White Knight Chronicles and its sequel will close on June 18. The first of the Level-5 PlayStation 3 RPGs released in 2010, and the second arrived in 2011, both trailing a Japanese release. They feature a sort of MMO-lite multiplayer component, which despite lengthy single-player storylines, were really the heart of both games. Neither exactly set critics on fire, though. As US and European players shared servers, this appears to be the end, so get after any last trophies you were chasing.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies will have 385 downloadable puzzles available

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies 030913

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies will be the recipient of a new puzzle a day for a full year, along with the addition of 20 standard puzzles. To help you keep track of the puzzles, Keats the cat is returning, and will he will also remind you to complete puzzles you left unsolved in the game. So, while this may be the last game starring our gentlemanly top hat-wearing professor, at least you will have a bevy of puzzles for him to help solve. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies released in Japan on 3DS last month, as we expect it to head westward in either early or late fall, as with previous entries. Thanks, Siliconera.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies screens show a chase involving airships

professor layton airship

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies, known in Japan as Professor Layton and the Legacy of the Super Civilization A, has been given the screenshots treatment.
Siliconera has posted the lot
. The title will be the last in the prequel trilogy for the series, and, sadly, the last featuring Herschel Layton. I’m trying not to get choked up over it, really. The game is due in Japan on February 28, and those in the west can probably expect a 3DS localization in the fall sometime.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies screens are typically gentlemanly

20130207_professor_layton_and_the_axran_legacies

Would you, by any chance, enjoy looking at 47 new screenshots and artworks from Level-5′s latest puzzling adventure, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies? Then allow me to direct your attention to Gematsu, which has neatly collated these wonders where your eye can trip merrily over their many and varied forms. The Azran Legacies, alas, has not been confirmed for western release yet, but all the previous core Professor Layton games have made their way beyond Japan, and this latest tale will not even reach Japanese gamers until the end of the month. It is but the second Professor Layton game to grace Nintendo’s 3DS.
