LEGO Batman 2 insert shows up in new LEGO Super Hero sets
Inserts included in a new collection of LEGO Super Hero toys pretty much confirm what everyone already knew: LEGO Batman 2 is in development for multiple systems. While the new LEGO sets are due for an official release in 2012, some US store are already stocking the toys, the boxes of which contain ads for the Warner game inside the pages of the instruction manual. Called LEGO Batman 2- Super Heroes, both the Bat and Justice League pals Superman and Wonder Woman are shown. More LEGO sets are to include Green Lantern and villains such as Lex Luthor and The Joker, so it’s being speculated that they will, in turn, pop up in the new videogame. The first word on a LEGO Batman sequel showed up over the summer via an LA Times feature on Warner. A release date along with an official announcement has yet to be made, but the game is expected sometime next year on 3DS, PC, PS3, Vita, Wii, and Xbox 360.
Thanks, MCV.

LEGO Universe shutting down on January 31
LEGO Group has announced its to close down its LEGO Universe MMO on January 31 to the lack of players. The firm will also start processing any applicable refunds on February 1. You can view the entire FAQ on the matter through here. The studios in Denmark and Colorado working on the game will be shuttered as well, resulting in the loss of 115 jobs the game provided to employees. Thanks, Massively.

Lego Prince of Persia toys cause game speculation

Lego game rumors are always out and about, and today is no exception, with news emerging of a Prince of Persia line of toys based on the upcoming movie in 2010.
When Disney announced that Lego would be releasing the toys, it only made sense that gaming sites would be buzzing about the possibility of a game connection.
Joystiq’s quick to point out that Warner Bros owned Traveller’s Tales has used licenses from other movie studios in the past, so it could be a possibility in the future.
Keep your fingers crossed.

LEGO Battles heading to DS this summer

Traveller’s Tales announced Lego Battles for DS today.
The game will feature three Lego toy themes, and allow you to build your own fortresses and wage battle against other teams across six storylines and over 70 different levels.
This means that your Lego pirates can battle wizards and aliens, and your dragons can knock about with ninjas while your pirate ships can accost a spacecraft. Really.
Multiplay will be a multi-card affair.
Still waiting for Lego Rock Band, obviously.
Press release after the jump.

Lego Universe will use bricks as in-game currency, may come to console
According to this Reuters article, upcoming MMO Lego Universe will use Lego bricks themselves as in-game currency and may head to consoles after an initial PC launch.
“The more a child plays, they collect more coins and more bricks. The more you play, the more you get to build things,” said project head Mark William Hansen.
The piece adds:
Lego Universe will initially launch as a PC game, available in stores or as a download, and may eventually be available on other gaming platforms. It will operate as a pay-as-you-go subscription service at a “competitive price”, Hansen said.
Worth a read, that, especially given the game’s likely to be large beyond belief.
