Legend of Grimrock, the indie first-person dungeon crawler, has made 600,000 sales; developer Almost Human said it would have been satisfied with one-tenth of that number. The turn-based affair spent two weeks as Steam’s best seller, and has acquired 450 items on Steam Workshop since it launched a dungeon editor. The indie team is being coy about what it’ll get up to next, but released ” target=”_blank”>two teaser images for you to pore over.

Sales galore are happening this weekend through the usual PC outlets Steam, Get Games, GoG, and many others. Some of these are rather cheap: Battlefield 3 is on sale for $10; Skyrim can be yours for $27; Defcon is a whopping 37¢; Legend of Grimrock is $7.49; both Alan Wake games are $19.99; Saints Row: The Third is really cheap at $9.99; and GoG.com has classic Sierra games and other Activision titles for paltry sums this week as well. The Legend of Grimrock’s Dungeon Editor will be released tomorrow, October 4, according to the official website. Already, over 150 mods have been published on Steam Workshop and Grimrock Nexus. The editor contains a lengthy list of changes and fixes as a result of beta testing, and can be found here. Thanks, Blue.

Legend of Grimrock’s free toolset enters public beta testing today. Almost Human will release the dungeon editor as a free update to the RPG, so modders can build their own dungeon crawling challenges and adventures. The update will include an “intuitive graphical interface, instant in-editor preview, comprehensive modding capabilities,” and built-in Steam Workshop support. A new trailer featuring the Dungeon Editor is below. To participate in the beta you need to have a Steam account and the game installed on Steam. Legend of Grimrock is 50% off at GOG.com for a limited time only. The turn-based dungeon crawler offers a pretty massive amount of content, especially at a reduced price tag of $7.50, and is soon to expand with a level editor. The indie effort has drawn lavish praise and holds an 82 average on Metacritic; that’s quite a lot higher than several games you probably paid $60 for, just sayin’.

If you’ve got a mind to put together some fiendish dungeons for your friends to die repeatedly in (there’s a little DM in all of us, right?), then you might care to consider Legend of Grimrock.
