LittleBigPlanet’s pitch name was Craft World

Media Molecule has posted on its blog that LittleBigPlanet was once known as Craft World.
Showing off a flier used to pitch the game design to Sony, the proposal promises a game with “glorious photorealistic PS3-powered 3D” with peer-to-peer sharing. The now famous mascot is shown as a potato in a sack, instead of the sackboy know and loved today.
According to the blog, the firm’s IT manager has found a few DVDs containing various videos of LittlebigPlanet’s past, and promises the possibility of posting these in the future.
Glad MM changed the name at least.
More through the link.

LittleBigPlanet demo and GoTY edition landing next week

A demo for LittleBigPlanet will arrive on PSN next week, allowing those who have yet to “jump in the sack” (loved that bit) a chance to try the platformer out, and see what the fuss is all about.
That rhymed a bit, sorry.
Anyway, the demo has in-game levels and mini-games for you to play with by yourself or with up to three of your friends. You can also customize your own Sackboy and play around with stickers and objects and more.
This hits on September 10 while the Game of the Year Edition is expected to be released on September 8.
Head on over to the US PS Blog for the full bit.
Thanks, Syrok.

Media Molecule accepting LittleBigPlanet water kit Beta applications

Water is coming to LittleBigPlanet as part of a new kit, and Media Molecule is currently accepting Beta applications.
Here’s the quote from the website:
It’s not just a saying you know – We really do need to test the water to make sure the new features all work as planned, and we need your help to do it! How would you like to dive on in to the crystal clear waters and enjoy some splish-splashing about before everyone else? Get out your rubber rings people, this is gonna be one hell of a pool party!
Sounds fun.
Go here. Sign up. Make sure your PSN account is set up to accept email from Sony Computer Entertainment. Cross your fingers and hope you get accepted.

Multiplayer cut from LittleBigPlanet PSP

Sony has cut multiplayer out of LittleBigPlanet PSP in order to get it to work. Despite this, the game is pretty much ready for the handheld.
“The one thing we’ve lost is multiplayer,” the game’s producer, Mark Green, told Eurogamer. “You’ve got full physics systems, you got full create mode, you’ve got all the aspects of LittleBigPlanet – you can upload, download, ad-hoc share with people – but we haven’t got multiplayer.
“It’s a trade-off. The system is physically capable of doing multiplayer, but perhaps not with the full physics system. On the technical side of things you lose a third of the processing power or a third of the system memory just to do multiplayer at all. With those limitations we couldn’t achieve it.
“The PS3 had those three planes you could move around on, but the first thing we asked Media Molecule was whether we could reduce that to two, and they were like, well, most of the levels we built can be played with two anyway, so that’s not a problem.”
Since he and loads of others weren’t fans of the jump handling in the PS3 version, Green said that Sony’s Cambridge studio had improved on it for the PSP version.
Good to know.

Amazon lists LBP: Game of the Year Edition

Amazon has listed a Game of the Year edition for LittleBigPlanet, but without a release date.
The game is listed for $49.99 and contains “Bonus Content Valued at over $30″ which we can only conclude means the majority of what is already available via PSN.
No release date was posted with the listing, but Amazon is taking preorders, apparently.
More over on IGN.

LBP PSP hands-on is positive

IGN got some face time with LittleBigPlanet PSP and the first impressions of the game are resoundingly positive ones.
The game runs well at this point, the controls are nicely responsive, and it looks like the collectible stickers and such are here in full effect. The main hub had the moons for user-generated content, though the build was locked down to just playing the demo level.
So far it looks cool, and given that it seems like it’ll have entirely unique content, it should wind up being a worthy pickup for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.
Whet your appetite? Here are some screenshots.

Ratchet & Clank content confirmed for LittleBigPlanet

Sony has confirmed that Ratchet and Clank are indeed getting the LittleBigPlanet treatment – it’s just not sure when.
The admission is in response to yesterday’s tweet between Insomniac and Media Molecule’s Alex Evans, which said that “lbp levells coming, r&c content done, coming soon.”
While the content is indeed “in the works”, Sony is unsure when it will be ready for release or what it consists of, because it doesn’t have “any further details at this time.”
Fair enough.
Thanks Eurogamer.
